Not getting very far with name options for a girl. Husband has suggested Sylvia. I certainly don’t hate it in the way I have other names he’s come up with. Think I quite like the nickname Sylvie. What do people think? Too old/middle-aged, or ripe for revival?

No to Sylvia. Yes to Sylvie

CatteStreet · 13/11/2019 18:52

Love Sylvia. Not keen on Sylvie.

raspberrymolakoff · 13/11/2019 18:52

I love Sylvia and Sylvie. I know one little Sylvie who is three, I reckon it's on its way back as from the same era as many other fashionable names.

daisypond · 13/11/2019 18:55

I like Sylvia. It’s better than Sylvie, which is a bit too fairy for me.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 13/11/2019 18:56

In English (and German) Sylvia works best. Beautiful and elegant name.

In French it's Sylvie.

bert3400 · 13/11/2019 18:57

Not sure as it's my mum's name, can't imagine a little baby being called Sylvia, but Sylvie is lovely. If you haven't heard this song by Miike Snow you should listen, it's beautiful

OrchidFlakes · 13/11/2019 18:59

Absolutely beautiful. Classic, underused, elegant. Sylvie is also a lovely nickname.

PG2018 · 13/11/2019 19:00

IScreamForIceCreams · 13/11/2019 19:21

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 13/11/2019 19:22

Nope

StoatofDisarray · 13/11/2019 19:25

Love it: due for a revival!

Ohilovedinosaurs · 13/11/2019 19:26

I believe Sylvie is very dated in France.

For me Sylvia is on par with Sue and Sheila

thunderandsunshine01 · 13/11/2019 19:27

Not to my taste. I think it has to be something you love though to commit to it, and it seems like you only just “don’t hate” it...

Jenniferat86 · 13/11/2019 21:16

I have a Sylvie and get so any compliments on her name. I still absolutely love it
