It's the Finnish word for snow and I think it's beautiful!

Sorry - can't spell in Romanian. It's probably 'Luminita' but pronounced as if it has an 's' after the last 't'.

I’m sure many would disagree but there’s something I find a little bit odd about choosing a name very much from a certain culture if you haven’t connection to it ...
wondering what the line is between appreciating a culture and cultural appropriation (eg if you choose a Scandinavian name coz you love norse myths despite being from Bournemouth maybe it’s ok ...? etc) I’m aware that may be unreasonable and peculiar of me ... not sure. But if you don’t have Romanian or Finnish connections and told me that was the origin of the name,I’d find it a bit odd. Possibly a reflection on me 🤷‍♀️

It sounds like an energy company or app name and difficult not to think of halloumi in fairness. How about Neve which also means snow but in Italian?

In Finland it’s not pronounced loo-mi anyway so probably wouldn’t work either with the odd English pronunciation.

I’m half Finnish. We don’t pronounce it Loomi the loo sound doesn’t exist in the language and it’s a Finnish word as OP said.

It is a common name in Finland for girls, but saying it Loomi just makes me think of electronics and stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️

We are seriously considering this for our daughter. It is becoming extremely popular in Finland atm

Also people saying Loo-mi sounds too much like a loo, how about Luna? It is also Loo-na no?
