Silver

I've liked this name for a girl since the start of my pregnancy.

I've only got a few weeks left and I really like it again now.

What's everyone's thoughts?
I don't want to get flamed for saying the word because I'm by no means judgemental or posh at all but does it come across a bit chavvy?

@MikeUniformMike 😂 that would really be playing the long game for the child!

What about spelling it Silva? But in general agree with pps suggesting Sylvia nn Silver/Silva

EleanorShellstrop100 · 05/11/2019 14:43

LOVE it! It’s not chavvy at all - it’s really cool!

EleanorShellstrop100 · 05/11/2019 14:46

Also, I don’t get the weird horse joke that a couple of PPs have made. And Silva spelled like this is a ‘legit’ name anyway (by legit I mean that it has a history - I know some MN posters are phobic of anything modern). And lastly, you have kids called Scarlett, Grey, Violet, even Blue now. Is Silver really that different?

Silver is the Lone Ranger's horse.

saywhatwhatnow · 05/11/2019 14:58

I really like Sylvester for a boy, nn Silver. DH asked if I'd been watching cartoons when I suggested it for DS2.

I would probably put a 'normal' name on her birth certificate like Sylvia or Sylvie and a just call her Silver. It's a cool name!

MrsEricBana · 05/11/2019 15:13

It's a no from me, sorry. Sylvie gorgeous though.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2019 15:13

The horse called Silver was from The Lone Ranger.

user1493494961 · 05/11/2019 20:26

It isn't cool, it's bloody awful.

Marcipex · 05/11/2019 20:29

Sylvie is nice, with nn Silver.

Junobug · 05/11/2019 20:35

I know a Silva. I love it but I always thought that she only pulled it off because she was from a very middle class family. I think it risks coming across as chavy if your not careful.

Wolfiefan · 05/11/2019 20:38

Hi Ho No. Grin

villamariavintrapp · 05/11/2019 20:47

Makes me think of long john silver

IrregularCommentary · 05/11/2019 20:57

As in Hi Ho?

Agree with pp, Sylvia with nn Silver if you really want the Silver.

Ellmau · 05/11/2019 21:18

Sylvestra?

MrsBertBibby · 05/11/2019 23:13

There was a Silver at my son's school, he could carry it as he was such a cool kid.

RoseMartha · 05/11/2019 23:39

No It is more of a pet's name

Newbiemumsy66 · 05/11/2019 23:45

Yea it’s pretty chavvy I’m afraid not a fan. Really liking Sylvia or Sylvia for short, not a name you hear much anymore

percheron67 · 05/11/2019 23:53

Pretty name. My friend used it for her English Setter.

Jossina · 05/11/2019 23:54

For some reason I think of Beverly Hills 90210 the television programme. Was there a character with this name?? I also want to yell, Hi-ho Silver, AWAY!!!

Mummaofmytribe · 06/11/2019 00:00

I like it

artio0 · 06/11/2019 00:07

I love it.

I also don't like people who use the adjective 'chavy' because they think their circumstances make them superior.

And re all the 'it's not a real name', how do we think current 'real' names came to be? Someone was the first Henry or whatever and I'm sure it meant something then too but I am too lazy to google it right now. How ridiculous would we view some 5 AD woman proclaiming Henry is a pleb name because she's never heard it and it means insert-meaning-here and her neighbour who wears light brown leather shoes instead of dark brown leather shoes and can't spell 'meticulous' called her son Henry. Do you see what I mean?...

Soon2BeMumof3 · 06/11/2019 00:30

Ah, do what you want. It won't be the most outlandish name in the class.

Astronica · 06/11/2019 07:09

It's quite nice. I do love Sylvie though.

WizzyBee · 06/11/2019 07:14

You're definitely having a girl then? Or would you call a boy Silver?

GaaaaarlicBread · 06/11/2019 07:23

I went to school with a Silvie , that’s a nicer yet similar version but you’ll get such a mix on here of opinions . X
