Paloma or Vivienne?

We've narrowed it down to these final two, they are quite different styles but I'm pretty sure I would be happy with either.

The lack of a nice shortened version of Paloma is an issue for me. However I think it probably is more in keeping with older sibling Saskia. Thx for your help!

I far prefer Vivienne, but I think Paloma goes better with Saskia- they are both the same level of exotic. I have a Vivienne, and I was really surprised at how many people thought it was a old school kind of name.

Paloma means puffin in Spanish, the bird. Vivienne is pretty!

(A cousin's daughter is called Paloma and this is to the perplexity of the Columbian side of the family still to this day! Hmm Confused)

userabcname · 21/10/2019 12:27

I prefer Vivienne - it's one of my favourites.

MonnaLIza · 21/10/2019 12:30

Paloma means "dove" in Spanish, not puffin :)
Picasso named his daughter Paloma so there is at least one Spanish precedent! :) I like the name Paloma very much.

HappyGirl86 · 21/10/2019 12:32

Vivienne is my middle name, named after my aunt. I think it's a lovely name. I prefer it to my first name actually!

MrsNoMopp · 21/10/2019 12:38

Paloma

MissHenty · 21/10/2019 12:40

Paloma

AdaColeman · 21/10/2019 12:41

Paloma is lovely.

Marinemarie · 21/10/2019 12:51

Paloma doesn’t mean puffin!
I really am not keen on either but at a push, Vivienne is better

Camparisafari · 21/10/2019 14:41

Thank you to everyone who has replied so far. I umm and ahh between them both so much and cannot ask anyone in real life!

I do have a big crush on Paloma as a name and have miraculously managed to get DH to agree to it, but wonder if it is in too similar a vein to Saskia, both ending with A, being quite Euro chic etc, and Vivienne is the bolder and more striking choice. Plus adore Vivi as a shortening. Although do not like Viv!

Any more thoughts?

I'm going to say Paloma

Because Vivienne is top on my list and people keep using it

MikeUniformMike · 21/10/2019 14:46

Paloma

MikeUniformMike · 21/10/2019 14:46

Pompom as a nn

wheresmymojo · 21/10/2019 14:47

Pompom - that's adorable Grin

She must then also get to have a Pomeranian for a pet.

wheresmymojo · 21/10/2019 14:48

Pompom's Pom

MikeUniformMike · 21/10/2019 14:57

Vivien is nice but will be Viv.
Vivienne will get Vivvy En, which I don't like.
Will get misspelt as Vivian or Vyvyan - both boy's names.

Paloma's pomeranian and palomino

Cupola · 21/10/2019 14:57

My nickname for a very good friend is Pompom, but her name is Vivienne Grin

Bigearringsbigsmile · 21/10/2019 14:59

Vivienne definitely

Nonnymum · 21/10/2019 14:59

I think Vivienne goes nicely with Saskia.

mamandematribu · 21/10/2019 15:00

They are both lovely names.

NoSauce · 21/10/2019 15:23

I class Vivienne as names such as Lynn, Carole, Diane, Janet, Barbara, Sue, Pauline, Elaine and Patricia. I don’t see the attraction if I’m honest.

Paloma is better.

babylemonade12 · 21/10/2019 17:25

Paloma

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 21/10/2019 18:42

Vivienne, really don't like paloma I'm afraid

Camparisafari · 23/10/2019 12:04

Absolutely love pompom as a nickname! Unbelievably cute! Not sure I could ever use it at the playground though, as people would surely think I was calling for a miniature dog.

Do you think it's almost certain that Vivienne would become Viv? That's something I'm hesitating over. I know you cannot control nicknames. Interesting that someone has benchmarked it with the more dowdy middle aged names like Pauline as I think of it as being much more glamorous than that (maybe swayed by angelina jolie)

Vivienne is a much prettier and classier name imo, and goes better with Saskia.

Paloma as mn?
