After 2 DS's I am finally getting over the shock of finding out I'm due a DD. I've had a very long list which I've narrowed down to more of a shortlist so would be grateful if you could let me know preferences out of following and/or any other suggestions??

Middle name likely to be Violet (as a family name) although still wavering on whether to have it as a first name. Just really don't like Vi as a nn...

Shortlist is:

Alice or Alys
Hannah
Lucy
Sadie
Nina
Ivy

Alice or Alys Violet.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/10/2019 10:53

I love Sadie and Hannah

Quite like Lucy and Nina

I don’t like Alice or Ivy

Nancy
Tess
Marnie
Grace
Sophia

FindaPenny · 19/10/2019 10:57

Like all of your choices apart from alys or ivy. I like Alice or Hannah best.

MrsBertBibby · 19/10/2019 11:01

Nina! That was one of my girl names I never got to use. Love it love it love it!

I don't much care for Violet, but it sounds pretty good with Nina.

Ivy Violet doesn't work at all.

Hannah, Alice and Lucy are all a bit good-but-dull girl names to me. They are nice enough names but quite bland and generic.

Sadie I like, but it's not a patch on Nina.

Ludways · 19/10/2019 11:11

Alice or Alys: I normally like traditional names but I really don't like Alice/Alys
Hannah: know loads
Lucy: Love
Sadie: Love
Nina: Like
Ivy: OK

NoSauce · 19/10/2019 12:10

Alice or Lucy!

Cuppachino · 19/10/2019 13:13

Alice or Hannah.

diddlediddle · 19/10/2019 13:19

As pp said, you can't really have Ivy Violet (two plants).

I don't like the Alys spelling. Alice Violet is nice though. I also like:
Nina Violet
Sadie Violet

Lucy and Hannah are also nice names but maybe a bit more plain.

Ihateedmundelephant · 19/10/2019 13:45

Sadie Violet is perfect! Or Alice is second choice.

Ihateedmundelephant · 19/10/2019 13:46

As for the others -
Hannah - dislike ... very dull and dated
Lucy - fine but a little dull
Nina - Love!
Ivy - dislike ... way too overused!

chuffoff · 19/10/2019 14:01

Thank you for responses so far. Sadie coming out very strongly on this thread then. I don't know of any around here (London commuter town), do others have any views on its popularity?

Just read back Alice is a popular choice too. It's quite traditional, I'm not as sold on it as Sadie or Hannah. Ivy definitely dropping down my list

I love Sadie. Not keen on the others

mapleleafshiba · 19/10/2019 14:44

I really don't like Sadie but Nina is lovely!

Ivy, Hannah and Alice all nice too though!

missmouse101 · 19/10/2019 14:50

Sadie and Nina. Dislike Ivy and Alice.

LucileDuplessis · 19/10/2019 14:52

Ivy is my favourite but doesn't go well with Violet, so I'd go for Alice.

user1493494961 · 19/10/2019 16:32

Really like Alice, dislike Sadie and Nina. Know a Violet nn Letty.

spice3 · 19/10/2019 16:36

Alice or Ivy are the nicest - they're both lovely.

Sadie is okay, just not my taste.

Hannah and Lucy always seem a bit plain to me and for some reason I don't like Nina, sorry!

feelingsinister · 19/10/2019 16:44

I really don't like Sadie. I wonder if there been a film or tv character of that name because I immediately think of sexy Sadie and it sounds a bit icky but I don't know why.

Ivy is lovely and Alice is nice too but my favourite in your list is Violet. It really is a gorgeous name. Just insist that no-one calls her Vi. It would be near the top of my list for a girls name. Smile

AdaColeman · 19/10/2019 16:48

I like Alice and Lucy.
Not keen on the others, Ivy and Sadie are my least favourite.

Alice Violet is a lovely combination.

aibutohavethisusername · 19/10/2019 19:51

I am not a fan of Sadie.

MollyHuaCha · 19/10/2019 20:57

Alice or Alys - lovely
Hannah - lovely
Lucy - lovely
Sadie - no, awful
Nina - no, sounds like a police siren
Ivy - ok

snowbear66 · 19/10/2019 21:15

Alice /Alys
Hannah
Molly

VenusClapTrap · 19/10/2019 21:17

I love Violet so I’d go with that as a first name. You don’t have to shorten it. Plenty of people use their whole name unshortened.
