First baby boy - stuck between Wilf (long form Wilfred) or Ivo...

Which do you prefer?

I’m surprised more people aren’t put off by “Ivo(r) Biggen” aka “I have a Biggen”. As soon as my husband mentioned his friend being teased so badly for it, I never considered the name again

GeoffreyAndBungle · 13/10/2019 21:33

I prefer ivo to wilf.

I really don't like 'grandad names' though!

Confused But isn’t Ivo normally pronounced EEE-voh (rather than EYE-voh)?

MondeoFan · 13/10/2019 22:03

Wilf is the one I think

diddlediddle · 13/10/2019 22:04

@MissHenty even if Ivo wasn't pronounced Ee-vo, Eye-vo doesn't remotely sound like "I've a"

Also that's a massively 80s joke. I genuinely can't imagine kids nowadays saying something like "I've a biggen" ! They'd think it was lame.

I'd say EYE-voh

CravingCheese · 14/10/2019 06:49

Ivo.

Pronounced Ee-vo, I'd assume. But I also like Ey-vo.

DisappointingBanana · 14/10/2019 07:51

I really like both, which is not like me!

If pressed to choose I’d probably say Wilf.

@diddlediddle I agree it’s the lamest joke I’ve ever heard 🤣 it’s not even bad to have a Biggen 🤣
But still my husband shakes at the thought of going near a name like this after what he witnessed at school

Naomimi · 14/10/2019 16:55

Both lovely, but Ivo was on our list and I still love it, so Ivo!

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 14/10/2019 17:02

Love wilf!! Ivo makes me think of ivor the engine

NuffingChora · 15/10/2019 21:49

100% Ivo. Also like Ivor and Ivan. Dislike Wilf.

BelgianWhistles · 16/10/2019 00:27

Ivo is a lovely name. I knew a wonderful Polish boy called Ivo (EE-vo) so it only has good connotations for me

Shadow1234 · 16/10/2019 04:39

Out of the two I would choose Wilf

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/10/2019 11:12

It’s pronounced EYE-VOH

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/10/2019 11:12

In the UK that is

Oliversmumsarmy · 16/10/2019 11:19

If forced between the 2 the man I would say Ivo.

Neither are great names.

Wilf though is an old mans name

Nottheduchess · 16/10/2019 11:19

Wilf is such a mehh name. Ivo is slightly better but not much, are these really the only two options you have? Are they family names?

notacooldad · 16/10/2019 11:23

you have to imagine them in a mature grown man professional environment and whether the name would still suit
True. I've worked with a few ' Wilf's' over the years and they have all been great.
The last one was 25 at the time and everyone loved him and he aced his job!

ThisLittlePiggyWentTo · 17/10/2019 17:15

Ivo is nice. Wilf is too but there are so many now. I like Ivo for its uniqueness and think it translates better through the ages.
