Aurora or Allegra?

DD has No name!
My favourite is Athena which DH thinks "doesn't sound like a name"

I also like aurora and allegra. I feel like Allegra is easier to pronounce but just feeling confused and hormonal. I like unusual names so allegra fits that more but finding it hard to let go of Athena!

Allegra gets my vote, really lovely name

Chloe9 · 03/10/2019 22:59

Allegra is an antihistamine brand, and I can't un-know that. I think Athena is lovely. Aurora is pretty but very frequently used.

Chloe9 · 03/10/2019 23:02

Elliana and Elinor/Eleanor are lovely.

StirFriedBadger · 03/10/2019 23:02

I loved Allegra but DH wouldn't have it - we went with Anastasia instead.

lottiegarbanzo · 03/10/2019 23:59

What about Aretha?

Polly Jones does sound cool.

lottiegarbanzo · 04/10/2019 00:00

If you like Athena, how about Xanthe?

Aurora is an OK name but has a cutsey feel due to being the name of the sleeping beauty princess in the disney film. But as it's derived from a scientific phenomenon (aurora borealis=the northern lights, the amazing lights in the sky when clouds of plasma from a solar flare interact with the earth's magnetic field) it is a name that could shake off that cutseiness.

Allegra sounds like a car. Ah yes the Vauxhall Allegra. Please don't name your baby after a car.

Athena is a brilliant name. It was the name of a goddess long before the Greeks named a city Athens to honour her. I love that name.

What about Aurelia?

Aprillygirl · 04/10/2019 04:45

I’m sorry but Aurora and Allegra are really ugly names. Athena is much nicer.

Mummybares · 04/10/2019 04:47

Allegra and athena are beautiful

Astronica · 04/10/2019 05:03

Both Allegra and Aurora are lovely names. I would choose Allegra as it's more unusual and because Aurora is a bit harder to say. Though I do love nn Rory. Polly is great too, but quite different in style. Which type is more like your dd1?

Love Allegra!! Beautiful and very classy. Its Italian for joy I believe.

Grufallosfriends · 06/10/2019 20:24

Allegra is beautiful!

thebakerwithboobs · 06/10/2019 21:04

Athena is a poster shop (showing my age)

Love Allegra, nn Legs!

whattodo2019 · 06/10/2019 22:23

I like Allegra
I love Aurelia
I and also like Venetia and Araminta

VenusClapTrap · 07/10/2019 08:10

Love Polly and Eliza. But if you are dead set on one of the long frilly A names, I’d go for Artemis as it is the most elegant.

Clayplease · 07/10/2019 08:12

I know an Athena, it's a nice name. Really like Clover and Polly too.

Whoops75 · 07/10/2019 08:22

They’re not great with Jones
I think Polly is too cutesy, Pippa is nicer.

Daphne Jones is fabulous

Rabanastre · 07/10/2019 08:33

Athena is beautiful. I have known a few Athena girls and they were all so beautiful and intelligent. it's too bad he does not see how beautiful athena is.

I definitely vote against Allegra. maybe because I am a nurse and it sounds sexually unpleasant or of relating to allergies.

so by default I vote for aurora despite the fact that I don't like the mumble of the pronunciation.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 13/10/2019 09:37

I like Allegra

AverageMummy · 13/10/2019 09:46

I like Allegra and it has musical associations for me - not cars or medicine

I really love Polly - either as a stand alone or as short for Penelope

Have you considered Althea ? It feels like a softer version of the name you’re really drawn to? I think Althea is a really beautiful name
