Aurora or Allegra?

DD has No name!
My favourite is Athena which DH thinks "doesn't sound like a name"

I also like aurora and allegra. I feel like Allegra is easier to pronounce but just feeling confused and hormonal. I like unusual names so allegra fits that more but finding it hard to let go of Athena!

Much prefer Athena, it's awesome. Also love Daphne.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 19:18

I really like Aurelia. I also like Eleanor. And Aurora. Allegra not so much.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 19:18

Of you are Scottish you won’t really go for Daphne (Broon).

ilovetofu · 02/10/2019 19:23

I like Athena.
And Xanthe!

BeBraveAndBeKind · 02/10/2019 19:38

You could think of a quality and look for names with that meaning?

Allegra means joyful and Athena was the Greek Goddess of War. Athena is a lovely name though (Allegra just reminds me of the Austin Allegra - I'm just old!)

NoSauce · 02/10/2019 20:12

Allegra. Aurora will date soon enough.

Petrichor11 · 02/10/2019 20:18

I really love Aurora

Joeybee · 02/10/2019 20:40

Both lovely names btw.
Aurora has Rory as nickname potential, which is awesome. However it's one of the fastest rising girls names, so could be set to get very popular. Also it's a little more girly/princess-y than Allegra.

Allegra is strong and cool, yet feline enough not to sound harsh. Not a lot of scope for nicknames though. This name I don't think will become overused, and it's easy to pronounce and spell.

JanewaysBun · 02/10/2019 20:42

I'm also sort of thinking Polly but that's a different type of name, more cutesy.

When I was PG DH didn't want to discuss names so I got really attached/decided on Daphne or Athena which is hard to let go of.

I like Aurelia best. Then Allegra. I think Aurora is a bit clunky to say and reminds me of a Disney princess.

icecreamsundae32 · 02/10/2019 21:15

Oh I love Anastasia- can't you persuade him?? Or Polly is quite unusual these days. Not a fan of Athena, Allegra (leggy!) or Aurora.
Alice? Alicia? Amber? Annabel? Arabella? Aria? Ariella? Some similar A names?

daisypond · 02/10/2019 21:23

I like Allegra best, then Athena. I wouldn’t consider Aurora. It’s just naff.

RavenLG · 02/10/2019 22:02

Is Allegra a car? My first thought was a car.

Aurora is a bit naff. Disney twee is my association.

DoctorAllcome · 02/10/2019 22:19

Atenea is the Spanish for Athena..just as pretty & less obvious if you’re worried about school bullies.

I knew an Artemis that is a great goddess too.

I would not do Allegra as it is a drug and also a musical term for playing perkily.

Aurora is nice as it is Latin for dawn/daybreak but a Disney name. Alba is the Catalan word for dawn/aurora and a pretty name too.

aibutohavethisusername · 02/10/2019 22:22

I like Aurora, Allegra sounds like a car.

Bouledeneige · 03/10/2019 00:22

The Allegro was a car - see below. What about Marina?

AntiHop · 03/10/2019 00:27

Allegra is easier to say than Aurora

123Dancewithme · 03/10/2019 00:49

How about...

Ariadne
Amadea
Alessia
Ariella
Adelina
Aphra
Amarantha
Amalia
Apollonia

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 03/10/2019 08:01

I’m shocked that so many people have said Aurora is a Disney name. I had no idea - the name Aurora reminds me of the Roman a goddess of the dawn, or Aurora Leigh, or Aurora Raby. It has only positive connotations! I don’t think the Disney thing should put you off - a lot of people won’t be aware of it!

FartnissEverbeans · 03/10/2019 19:20

Both are beautiful. I love Aurora but it seems to be having a bit of a ‘moment’ so it might date more quickly.

Fwiw, I think Polly Jones is absolutely gorgeous! She could be PJ Grin I’ve only ever come across one Polly.

How about Ariadne or Ariana?

s3tut0y3r · 03/10/2019 21:02

Some alternatives...
MIrabelle
Marybelle
Emilia
Eleanor

mylifenow27 · 03/10/2019 21:28

I have an Annalise and a Aurora everyone always compliments their names. But it's personal preference.

MissHenty · 03/10/2019 21:45

@JanewaysBun what’s your DS name if you don’t mind me asking

I like polly and aurora

WhoKnewBeefStew · 03/10/2019 21:46

Allegra will always be a car to me and Aurora is a Disney princess.

Leflic · 03/10/2019 22:51

Allegra sounds a bit try hard. Aurora P&O is a cruise ship.
Polly is good, Clementine is good and I really like Athena or Helena.
