Is this really horrendous?

Lennon, nn Lennie for baby girl. I read a book a while back and there was a girl in there called Lennon and it’s stuck with me since.
I think Lennie is a cute and pretty nn too. I typically like slightly more unisex names.
OH likes it too. I was pretty much decided on it but decided last night to do a which MN search on the name just to see the general opinion / check for any issues in it etc. Bad idea. The pinnacle was a recent thread on Lennyn... didn’t go well.

So is Lennon / Lennie that bad? It would be Lennon Rose probably.

It's okay for a boy, I'm not keen on it for a girl. Definitely not horrendous though.

Ambidexte · 21/09/2019 14:13

If you and your OH really like it then I would go for it.

I can be a bit of a name snob sometimes but I think it's fine.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/09/2019 14:15

Sorry OP but Lennie makes me think of lennie from Of Mice and Men.

And will continue to remind ppl of it as it's on the GCSE syllabus...

I don't like for a girl at all as you've asked

OkayGo · 21/09/2019 14:19

I had a friend who’s daughter was Eleanor and they called her Lennie

DramaAlpaca · 21/09/2019 14:19

Not too sure about Lennon, too many male associations for me to think of it as a female name.

Just a thought, but as an alternative Lennox is more feminine to me. It's the surname of a female character in The Secret Garden & I once met an American girl with the name.

BertrandRussell · 21/09/2019 14:21

Lennie is not a unisex name. It is a boy’s name.

GlassSuppers · 21/09/2019 14:28

If you have to ask if a name is horrendous then it usually is OP.

I think it would be okay for a boy, not a girl.

mabiee · 21/09/2019 14:30

Lennon is out.
I still love Lennie / Leni, could I use it as a full name? I’m not really a big fan of classic names like Eleanor go be honest, so if there’s any alternatives let me know

GrapefruitGin · 21/09/2019 14:31

Horrendous is a bit strong but no, I don’t like it for a girl

zen1 · 21/09/2019 14:32

What about Lena, with Lennie as a diminutive form?

boomboom1234 · 21/09/2019 14:33

Makes me think of Lemon.

Can you work it another way?

boomboom1234 · 21/09/2019 14:33

Couldn't you go Lena and call her Lennie as nickname?

HollyBen · 21/09/2019 14:37

I don't mind Lennon. I would assume it is a boys name though. I know an Arlene who uses the nickname Lenny

Snog · 21/09/2019 14:37

Eleni is nice

boomboom1234 · 21/09/2019 14:38

Pooh yes Eleni is cool!

margaritasbythesea · 21/09/2019 14:41

I know Greek and Welsh women called Eleni. Its great.

Windydaysuponus · 21/09/2019 14:44

Lennon is a boy's name ime.
Better than a Ronnie dd I have just heard about!
Full forename name Ronnie - May!
Eleanor nn Leni?

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 21/09/2019 14:47

My cousin called her daughter Lennie but they live in Australia and it seems to be normal there

OctopusNow · 21/09/2019 14:56

I quite like Lemon tbh Grinwouldn't have the balls to use it though.

RuthW · 21/09/2019 15:08

Everyone will assume she's a boy. It's quite popular here.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 21/09/2019 15:18

I don't see why you can't just use it as a full name?
Quite why you have to go round the houses with Eleanor et al to create some level of acceptable respectability strikes me as a bit odd.
Go with it OP

Bookworm4 · 21/09/2019 15:19

Lots of boy Lennons in Scotland, after Neil Lennon, very common and laughed at a bit.

Morado · 21/09/2019 15:21

I love it! Not so fond of Lennie though.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 21/09/2019 15:25

I get called Lenny as a nickname and I like it.

Not keen on Lennon though. As others have said it makes me think of John Lennon.

PrestonNotHeston · 21/09/2019 15:33

Helena, shortened to Lennie?
Leonora?
