Which do you prefer out of these two? Thanks!

I have an Eleri and know an Eleni. Both beautiful names, but in my completely biased opinion, I prefer Eleri

tempnamechange98765 · 15/09/2019 17:56

Pretty sure Eleni means "this year" in Welsh.

joystir59 · 15/09/2019 17:58

Eleni is a common Greek girls name. Elefteria is another, it means freedom. I don't know what Eleni means

tabbiemoo · 15/09/2019 18:13

Definitely prefer Eleni
I just can’t not hear Celery for Eleri no matter which way it is pronounced Confused

Petrichor11 · 15/09/2019 18:21

I really like both of them!

AverageMummy · 15/09/2019 18:25

I don’t love either but I’d never have guessed the right pronunciation for Eleri so I’d go for Eleni

Kanga83 · 15/09/2019 18:36

I love Elenni in the Greek way.

cuddlyquarry · 15/09/2019 19:10

What is the ‘proper’ pronunciation for each?

Eleri is lovely. Don't use Eleni if looking for a Welsh name it just means this year and isn't a name. Elena is nice.

cheesemumma · 15/09/2019 19:15

I know an Ethiopian Eleni pronounced El -leen-ee. Very pretty name.

confusedandemployed · 15/09/2019 19:19

I live in Wales so Eleri is very popular. I like Eleni and I knew it was a Greek name but as I live in Wales, the "this year" thing would put me off. If you're not in Wales, I'd say they are both as lovely as each other.

Stravapalava · 15/09/2019 19:22

Both are beautiful. Sorry, not much help there. I think Eleni is more of a "multicultural" name than Eleri though.

I know Greek Elenis pronounced "El-enn-ee" and one called "El-ay-nee". The only Eleri I know pronounces it "Ell-eer-ee".

MikeUniformMike · 15/09/2019 19:30

Eleri is pronounced El ERRy. Usually said as Lerry.
As pp, I know several, and more than one Teleri.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/09/2019 19:33

Eleni

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 15/09/2019 19:37

I have a soft spot for Eleri... I know one (lovely girl) and also a Meleri and a Teleri Grin

LittleMy20 · 15/09/2019 19:52

Eleni is Greek- a but odd of your daughter is not Green. It’s Helen.

LittleMy20 · 15/09/2019 19:53

Greek for Helen.

Scruffalicious · 15/09/2019 20:58

It's still not quite right. e-LE-REE is what you're going for: quick, gentle first syllable, a strong second syllable and a bounce between the second and third syllable.

AlliKaneErikson · 15/09/2019 23:59

Both gorgeous, but I think Eleni is my favourite.

coffeeandrainbows · 16/09/2019 00:44

Love Eleri and I’ve always heard it pronounced to rhyme with fairy so el-air-ee. It’s gorgeous!

Astronica · 16/09/2019 06:57

I prefer Eleni - lovely name.

Lanaa · 16/09/2019 07:02

Eleni is a beautiful name. I taught one recently and she is such a gentle and kind soul.

TamarindCove · 16/09/2019 07:03

I’m Welsh so am familiar with Eleri, but if you’re outside Wales then it’s indeed very likely to be pronounced as celery without the C!

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 16/09/2019 07:07

I love them both! I am in torment trying to choose my favorite here! Grin I’d say, at a push... if I had a gun to my head, I’d choose Eleni. But they’re both beautiful!!

AverageMummy · 16/09/2019 07:27

@Marvinmarvinson that was completely unnecessary. Especially as the pp had said apologies for naivety. Lots are making up names these days it is not offensive to have not heard of every international name
