Too odd?!

I'm currently 34+1 with a little girl. I love the name Megan, but I prefer it pronounced in the American way. So to make it clear, I'm planning to spell it Maygan. Or is that too weird??

is that too weird? Yes.

I prefer it pronounced in the American way. Move to America.

stayathomer · 13/09/2019 16:11

Meghan? I think people will pronounce that they way that Ithinkyou are going for with Maygan... Otherwise, I wouldn't.

Exactly this!! Plus I don't know how to say this, but your spelling is the word 'gay man jumbled up.

stayathomer · 13/09/2019 16:13

Is there another what to say Megan?

Meh Gen is a way to pronounce too, or meh gan

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:16

Yes mehgen or Meghan both sound the same as maygan do to me.

CarolineKate · 13/09/2019 16:17

I agree with pp meigan is a good idea.

LissieJess · 13/09/2019 16:18

Oh dear! That would be a no, then!

Awful op

Don’t do it even if you move to America!

CarolineKate · 13/09/2019 16:19

Maigen*

StrictlyComeMarie · 13/09/2019 16:19

@JoxerGoesToStuttgart I live in SW England and every Megan I’ve known has been Megg-un. Must be regional/national differences

elsieotter · 13/09/2019 16:20

@JoxerGoesToStuttgart here I’m the uk it’s pronounced as it’s spelt - literally Megan.

Meagan OP?

Bumbags · 13/09/2019 16:20

Ridiculous and awful.

She will spell it every day of her life

TheJoxter · 13/09/2019 16:21

I’d pronounce Megan like mehg’n

If you want may-gan then I’d spell it Meagan or Meigan

Grin yes! That’s the same as maygan in my accent! I’m not understanding what the different way to say it is. These all sound the same!

I’m in the U.K. too. (I said so in my post)

Kim82 · 13/09/2019 16:29

I have a 12 year old Megan, we pronounce it like Meg-un as does every other Megan we’ve ever met. The only other pronunciation we’ve had is from my uncle who calls her Mee-gun but he’s wrong (and a bit weird).

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:30

Does OP mean she wants it pronounced ”mee gan”?

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2019 16:30

Jox first part is Me

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2019 16:30

No it would be pronounced that way but she wants may

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:30

Xpost Kim!

AudacityOfHope · 13/09/2019 16:31

I work with a Maylin, which I think comes from her dad's Malaysian heritage.

Maygan is quite clunky and people might instinctively pronounce it MayGAN. Which sounds like a car. Renault Maygan.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:32

So OP wants Megan, pronounced like, Megan, and she thinks she needs to change the spelling in order to get it pronounced that way? Fixing a problem that doesn’t exist.

AverageMummy · 13/09/2019 16:34

Please don’t do this to your child - they might want to be taken seriously one day

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2019 16:34

I don’t think I know anyone who would pronounce it May

Meh or Me only

AverageMummy · 13/09/2019 16:35

@JoxerGoesToStuttgart no she wants it pronounced ‘may’ not ‘meg’

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 16:42

That’s the same sound! Grin

HeadintheiClouds · 13/09/2019 16:43

Megan is pronounced Megan in America. There’s no such name as Maygan, and it sounds ridiculous anyway.
