Help us name baby girl please!

We had a baby girl two days ago but we are really struggling to name her! We didn't find out the sex beforehand and didn't really have any names we were sure about.

Older brother is Theodore (Theo).

Names we have considered:
Xanthe
Ariadne
(We were thinking of a Greek name to go with Theo but wondered if these are too out there)
Also on our list are:
Charlotte
Samantha (we don't like Sam though so not sure about this)
Camille
Naomi

Help please! Nothing is really grabbing us.

Thank you so much for any suggestions!

I like Ariadne but I’m not too keen on matching children’s names.
Charlotte and Samantha I find a bit boring/overused and I wouldn’t use it if you really don’t like a shortening.
Naomi is a beautiful name.

Elizabeth (Betty)
Catherine (Cat/Cathy)

Xanthe

Love this name, and would have used or but had three boys. Still feel sad that I won't get to use it!

FindaPenny · 12/09/2019 14:21

Ariadne is very pretty... How about Penelope, Phoebe, Helena or Cassandra for Greek names that aren't as unusual. Congratulations

IggyAce · 12/09/2019 14:23

Naomi I like this and it’s under used.
Some suggestions:
Adeline
Adelaide
Rebecca
Margot

victoria0132 · 12/09/2019 14:24

Congratulations!
For some other Greek ones how about:

Sophia
Thea
Chloe
Arianna
Callie
Helen

Xanthe - not my style but really like it

Ariadne - like this a lot
Charlotte - always liked this
Samantha - not keen
Camille - beautiful
Naomi - really love this

Others you might like:
Sylvie
Cassia
Sabrina

I love Xanthe! I wish I’d thought of it for my LG

tommycockles · 12/09/2019 14:38

Xanthe is lovely and a little bit unusual without being over the top.

Charlotte is classic

Unsure about Naomi.

Samantha is dated
Camille reminds me of the sick person from the book
Ariadne is too try hard. And I think it sounds like an ointment.

I like Theo so you have for, for good taste.

Please come back and tell us what you chose.

MissHenty · 12/09/2019 14:40

Edith?
Maggie (Margaret)?
Emmy/Emmie?
Chloe sounds nice with Theo

Can you let us know what you choose?

MissHenty · 12/09/2019 14:41

Ps. Love Charlotte. So classic.

kiwiblue · 12/09/2019 14:49

Thanks everyone this is really helping! Keep them coming!

Is Arianna pronounced -anna or anah? We actually do quite like Aria and were already talking about that as a possible shortening for Ariadne
I worry Ariadne is too frilly/complicated, but you've all reassured me a bit about Xanthe!

Also do like Helena and Cassandra.

Aria is a name in its own right! But Ariadne is nice.

FawnDrench · 12/09/2019 14:56

Cressida
Daphne
Anastasia

FindaPenny · 12/09/2019 15:00

I don't think Ariadne is frilly, but are you worried it could be considered a bit pretentious? I love it anyway. Glad you liked Cassandra and Helena... How about Daphne?

mamaoffourdc · 12/09/2019 15:31

I love aria x

MissHenty · 12/09/2019 15:39

Don’t like Cassie rhymes with Gassy 🤣

MissHenty · 12/09/2019 15:39

Yes I love Aria

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/09/2019 15:44

I was going to say Samantha but probably not if you don't like Sam. Shame. Sammy could work though, do you like Sammy.

My second choice would be Naomi

kiwiblue · 12/09/2019 15:47

Yes I suppose Ariadne could be seen as a bit pretentious.

I also really like Daphne and it was on my list but DH doesn't like it.

Aria is lovely

LarkDescending · 12/09/2019 16:00

Congratulations!

Helena is a lovely idea.

Maybe Athena?

victoria0132 · 12/09/2019 16:00

I like Aria, really pretty. I'd pronounce Arianna with the 'anna' emphasised at the end.

MyBootsAreMuddy · 12/09/2019 16:31

I really like Ariadne and Camille, quite like Xanthe too.
Aria is sweet but has gained popularity the last few years due to Game of Thrones (albeit spelt Arya).

user1493494961 · 12/09/2019 16:32

Not Samantha.

Abstractedobstructed · 12/09/2019 16:36

Zoe is Greek and less out there.
I like Astrid though no obvious nickname.
