Help us name baby girl please!

We had a baby girl two days ago but we are really struggling to name her! We didn't find out the sex beforehand and didn't really have any names we were sure about.

Older brother is Theodore (Theo).

Names we have considered:
Xanthe
Ariadne
(We were thinking of a Greek name to go with Theo but wondered if these are too out there)
Also on our list are:
Charlotte
Samantha (we don't like Sam though so not sure about this)
Camille
Naomi

Help please! Nothing is really grabbing us.

Thank you so much for any suggestions!

Phoebe
Hebe
Susannah
Viola
Myrto

Or Lydia, Maya or Zoe (all Greek)

Frith2013 · 12/09/2019 17:56

Xanthe - my favourite on your list
Ariadne - ok
(We were thinking of a Greek name to go with Theo but wondered if these are too out there)
Also on our list are:
Charlotte - dull and my old cat
Samantha (we don't like Sam though so not sure about this) really don’t like this. Very 1970s or Sex and the City
Camille - ok
Naomi - nice

Muddlingalongalone · 12/09/2019 18:05

I love Xanthe, and Naomi (How would you pronounce it? I like neigh-oh-me but not so keen on nigh-em-i)

Like Camille but prefer Camilla. The Camille I know was always known as Cami. She was French and it always suited her.

Enjoy your newborn snuggles

NAomiNOTNiomi · 12/09/2019 18:28

I really like the name Xanthe and also Naomi (biased as it's my name). A word of warning though, I would say that if you don't like the pronunciation Niomi maybe stay away from it. I actually like my name when said properly, but bloody hate the fact that about 90% of the time people say Niomi. I'm 44 and have had it my whole life.

Funnily enough I met a woman and her young daughter Naomi a few weeks ago, and we both had a good old moan about people pronouncing it Niomi instead of Naomi.

RedRec · 12/09/2019 18:31

Camille is a beautiful name.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 12/09/2019 18:38

Calliope?

kiwiblue · 12/09/2019 19:36

Ok good info about Naomi, I would say it Neigh-oh-mi and didn't realise people mispronounce as Niomi.

Camilla was on my list and so was Beatrice but they both make us think of royal family members!

These responses are so helpful, I've sent this link to DH who is really impressed by what you've all come up with!

I do like Cassandra but not sure I love Cassie so it might be out. Calliope and Athena are a bit too Greek for me, if that makes sense.

I think your responses are reassuring us that Xanthe and Ariadne are not too out there.

If any more thoughts send them over- and I'll definitely update you all once she's named!

I like xanthe and camille

FleurNancy · 12/09/2019 20:03

I love both Xanthe and Ariadne. I also love Lydia. Cecily is a big favourite of mine too (only had boys though....)

Iliada · 12/09/2019 20:07

I love Xanthe. I would go with that.

But if you like Ariadne, have you considered Ariadna? Very common for babies in Spain right now and very unusual in the UK.

@kiwiblue - I don't think anyone has suggested this yet but how about Lorelei or Lara? Both beautiful but strong names. She could become a prime minister or be a CEO but still be feminine. 👍

Oneforposy7 · 12/09/2019 22:45

Congratulations OP! Just to say I have a Helena and always had lovely feedback. Lots of lovely nickname possibilities (ours is a Nell but Lena is also gorgeous), great meaning. Not had a problem with pronunciation. Let us know what you decide to name her!

Poetryinaction · 12/09/2019 22:54

Congratulations! Ariadne is lovely and Ari is a nice nn.
Susannah is beautiful.
I struggle with Naomi. Where is the emphasis (on the neigh or the oh)? Too vowelly for me.

LarkDescending · 12/09/2019 22:55

Oh I adore Helena! So gorgeous.

Rosere · 12/09/2019 23:00

I love Helena, good solid name. Classic but modern. I also love it shortened to Lena.
The Ariadne.. I cannot work out how to pronounce it.
Congratulations on your new arrival.

Tillygetsit · 12/09/2019 23:10

Xanthe is so lovely. Hope you choose it.

123Dancewithme · 12/09/2019 23:12

Xanthe, Ariadne or Helena.

CopperTrolley · 12/09/2019 23:19

Xanthe or Helena are nice.

I also really like Minerva.
