my friend is considering Lucy. With the resurgence of the Narnia series coming up i figured that i'd ask here for thoughts on the name.

I loved the meaning of Lucy which is why we used it ‘bringer of light’ which she did after our DD1 died.

I also had a great aunt Lucy, have a 40yr old friend Lucy and worked with two English lucy’s Who have done very well in their professions and are outgoing, strong and confident.

It’s a lovely name! Very classy. And a popular DD name choice among my circle of friends / acquaintances (all solicitors oddly enough!)

ThunderMum · 03/09/2019 03:13

Lucy and Peter are adjacent to each other on this board today. Gorgeous, both names!

Mine and DH names!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/09/2019 03:35

Sorry, but I'm not a fan. Not sure why but it just doesn't work for me. I know what a pp meant when she said it was a babyish name.

I've never thought about it before but I do t know anyone my age (52) called Lucy. There was a Lucy in my class at school so it was being used for children then, I've just not come across one since.

However. OP, if you like the name then use it.

All Lucys are blonde

joystir59 · 03/09/2019 06:12

All Lucys are blonde I know a Lucy with electric blue hair, tattoos and a Rottweiler, called Lola.

SemperIdem · 03/09/2019 06:39

It’s a nice name, only ever met one, same age as me so would be early 30’s now.

JassyRadlett · 03/09/2019 06:49

All Lucys are blonde

Grin I’ve just realised every Lucy I know (aged 6 months to 80) is or was a brunette.

MountainDweller · 03/09/2019 07:11

My good friend Lucy is 50 and a brunette. Works well for her!

I'm a similar age but didn't know any Lucys as a child so maybe that's why it seems perfectly suitable for an adult to me. And not boring at all!

MollyHuaCha · 03/09/2019 07:18

Lovely name, really like it.

But I agree with a pp that is sounds much nicer in some accents than in others.

whiskeysourpuss · 03/09/2019 13:14

All Lucys are blonde

My Lucy is blonde but as she's the only one I know my frame of reference is rather small Grin

whattodowith · 03/09/2019 14:52

Timeless name. Nobody would make that link really, it’s such a commonplace name.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 03/09/2019 14:56

I'm 43 and it has worked for me so far.

NoSauce · 03/09/2019 15:01

I know 3 Lucys. One dark, one blonde and one red!

tedladybird · 03/09/2019 21:23

I think Lucy is a really lovely name.

If you went with Susan as suggested by PP, at least you know you weren't picking an overused name...there were only 6 babies named Susan last year!

AverageMummy · 03/09/2019 21:27

Lucy is the old lady bear in Paddington
I can’t hear how it could be only for children & not adults - it seems such a lovely simple classic. But I guess we all hear these differently.

june2007 · 03/09/2019 21:54

TRouble wih Lucia is I have worked with about 3 with this name all prenouned differently. (1 English Luc-ee-a, one Spanish Lu-the-a and one Italian lu-chi-a.)

aibutohavethisusername · 03/09/2019 21:58

Lucy is a great name.

Jowak1 · 03/09/2019 22:02

My daughter is 8 and she's called Lucy. I love the name!

Tiredmum100 · 03/09/2019 22:11

I'm a Lucy. I'm in my 30s. I have stopped wearing pink and my hair in pigtails at last. My nan was also Lucy Personally I love my name and I think it suits any age. I do have blonde hair however so I'm sorry not to break that stereotype (actually I'm not sorry in the slightest).

december20100 · 18/10/2019 15:13

Lucy is nice and a strong name and the correct spelling.

I have seen it spelt as "Lewcee" before and I cringed.

MissHenty · 18/10/2019 16:36

I love the name Lucy. You don’t meet many either do you. A classic name

bookworm14 · 18/10/2019 16:38

I am a Lucy (not blonde!). It’s a pretty good name to have.
