my friend is considering Lucy. With the resurgence of the Narnia series coming up i figured that i'd ask here for thoughts on the name.

Really really really dull. The name equivalent of painting all the walls in your house white

joystir59 · 01/09/2019 14:35

Lucy is beautiful

fergusthefrog · 01/09/2019 14:47

I love the name Lucy, a really lovely choice

littlemeitslyn · 01/09/2019 15:23

Most wont remember I love Lucy

SingingSands · 01/09/2019 15:39

It's lovely, and was to be DS's name if he had been a she!

Scandinaviagirl · 01/09/2019 17:08

It just doesn't work for anyone over the age of 8.

whiskeysourpuss · 01/09/2019 17:22

It just doesn't work for anyone over the age of 8.

It's working quite well for my almost 18yo Lucy.. Hmm

Scandinaviagirl · 01/09/2019 17:56

Just giving my opinion as asked. Sorry if you're offended by my view

motortroll · 01/09/2019 18:42

@Scandinaviagirl

I'm a 41 year old Lucy. Works fine for me!

Scandinaviagirl · 01/09/2019 18:45

Grin oh good god! The OP asked for my opinion. You might disagree with me but you need to not be so sensitive.
In my opinion I find the name too girly and childish. Didn't realise my opinion had such an effect on ppl Confused

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 01/09/2019 18:49

My 16 month old DD is Lucy! Not named after anyone, we just liked the name and it suits her.

motortroll · 01/09/2019 19:23

@Scandinaviagirl

Well you escalated that quickly Shock

Not offended just saying that I disagree. You know....adding my opinion!!

MamaFlintstone · 01/09/2019 19:25

I love it. I do know a few of all ages though, including close friend’s DD so couldn’t use it. Probably for the best as there are 2 in DD’s room at nursery.

MeMeMeYou · 01/09/2019 19:27

I find it a bit lispy and cutesy as a name but i like that it’s not over exposed

jackstini · 01/09/2019 19:28

I know a lot of people like it but I really don't

Quite common and I can never say it without saying 'lastic' after it

I know I'm in the minority though 🤷‍♀️

MilkItTilITurnItIntoCheese · 01/09/2019 19:29

Our 14 year old is Lucy. I work with a little Lucy at preschool. I think it’s timeless.

EugenesAxe · 01/09/2019 19:37

Oh no I don’t like Susan at all. It’s like the name equivalent of brown.

I know what people mean though, about Lucy being quite a youthful name. I know a solicitor called Lucy though, and it’s still lovely as a name for someone middle aged or older.

TequilaMockingbird0 · 01/09/2019 19:49

I agree with the PP who said it's dull. I think it's one of the plainest, most boring names going.

hammeringinmyhead · 02/09/2019 08:05

It's my name and I don't love it. It sounds better in some accents than others - where I grew up it wss "Loo-seh" instead of Loo-see".

mynameisigglepiggle · 02/09/2019 08:17

It's my name! I'm 40 and also a solicitor. @EugenesAxe Wonder if it's me you know!
It's also my mums middle name, was my grandmothers name and is my daughter's middle name. So a name that spans 4 generations of my family.
I like it and I was never in a class with another one during my school years.
My only slight issue is that on the phone people often think I say Lisa but that might be my unclear diction.

1066vegan · 02/09/2019 08:22

Very pretty

notso · 02/09/2019 09:28

Oh no I don’t like Susan at all. It’s like the name equivalent of brown.
Grin this made me laugh out loud!
I disagree though, I think Susan is a great name and has decent diminutives.
I'd far rather be named Susan than Lucy. Lucy is surely a baby pink name.

nsalat · 03/09/2019 01:03

"Lucy is surely a baby pink name"

The stupid view of femininity as weakness is why i hate the legacy of the 1970s far left.(and the associated Helen Reddy etc etc)

Love the name Lucy. When I was younger I wished it was my name!

NewName54321 · 03/09/2019 02:45

Lovely name, would use it in its own right rather than as a nickname for Lucinda. I knew a Lucy at primary school. Unfortunately, her brother called her "Lucy Lastic” which put me off using it.
