What are your thoughts on this girls name? With the diminutive Maddy.

spark I don’t think you are the only person but when a poster asks for views it’s different. I actually think about the name and what I think and what it might mean or how it might be seen or how it sounds with other names etc etc in a way I never ever do irl.
I actually know someone (very posh interestingly) called Sharon. She’s just Sharon. Have never thought about her name. However if there were a thread asking about naming a baby Sharon I would have some thoughts. ! Were in a kind of crazy scrutinising bubble I think.

Madison was made up by Disney 1984 film Splash.

James Madison was the fourth (?) president of the US.

It's not to my taste tbh. Madeleine in much nicer but she is your daughter so go for it if you like it.

Tbh I find the usage of chavvy far worse than your name choice.

Congratulations on your baby 🙂

Yes. But using it as a given name comes from the film Splash.
As they walk through Madison Square Gardens Daryll Hannah says that she could be called Madison. Tom Hanks says that she can’t because Madison isn’t a name. But she goes for it anyway.

Pancake how do you know that? The OP might never have seen Splash.

My daughter is Madison and I hate the name Maddie...If anyone calls her that, which they all know not to now, I correct them

Toitoitoi · 04/09/2019 22:02

What? Well I know that because I saw the film. And those are lines from the film.
Since then Madison has been used as a given name when before it was just a surname.

It doesn’t matter if the op has seen the film because it’s become a popular name since.

And a no from me

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 05/09/2019 07:59

Nope

OllyBJolly · 05/09/2019 08:04

What's with all the anti-American stuff? How is that acceptable?

Still an awful name.

daisypond · 05/09/2019 08:07

Madison/Maddison means son of Matthew, so it doesn’t work for a girl, in my opinion. It’s different from a name like Alison because that has an -on ending, not a -son ending. It’s a diminutive of Alice. Alis-on.

Heh1991 · 05/09/2019 09:58

I can't stand this name- in my mind its the name of a naughty, spoilt brat child. Just my opinion though, would be boring if we all felt the same!
