Uncommon girls name. - Rumer or True

Hi all,

My tiny girls list only consists of:

Rumer
True

I have searched for hours and hours to find some other options to consider and keep coming up blank! Interested to hear preferences between the two and other options!

I prefer uncommon but short and simple names.

Sibling is Arlo!

It is an old English name albeit a surname meaning a gypsy or traveller probably stemming from Romer, the word Rumour also comes from the same source

Cyberworrier · 30/07/2019 15:05

Thanks to PP - yes Rumy would sound like Ru - mee, rather than
room - ee. The difference is subtle but exists! I know a Japanese Rumi short for Rumiko and no one has ever said oh like Roomy afaik!

Fuiseog · 30/07/2019 17:08

You seem to like strong "u" / "oo" sounds based on your top two choices, so if you are looking to expand the list, that might be a good starting point. I really like that sound too.

Some of the names I immediately thought of are:
Úna
Julie/Julia
Judy
Azul

and my favourites:
Juliette
Lucy
Luna
Juno
(or similar June/Juna/Junia).

I think you should pick what you love most and can imagine calling your baby.

I don't follow the Kardashian stuff so didn't know that was a name in their family until I read responses, and when I read your original post, I thought it sounded like a very cute name. It's up to you whether you think it would bother you that people would think you are a big fan.

I really like the name Rumer based on sound (that lovely u with r sounds, which I also love), but I always hesitate over the potential for immediately thinking of or confusing with the word "Rumour", which I don't think of as a positive word. I'm not sure I could get past the association which I don't think I'd want my child to have, which is why it never quite made my list, but I have more than once considered it for the list because I like the sound! Again, it's up to you if you think this will bother you or could bother your baby.

Best of luck!

True is dreadful.

Rumer I’m not overly keen on but is significantly better than True.

Honor would be my suggestion.

midsomermurderess · 31/07/2019 22:54

Rory is a boy's name.

LittleDoveLove · 31/07/2019 23:13

Definitely not True the poor child will never be taken seriously! Rumer isn't much better to be honest. You are naming a human who will have this name the rest of their life. I hope the middle names are more sensible if you choose one of those so they at least the choice to use something more sensible in adulthood.

llangennith · 31/07/2019 23:41

How about Truly rather than True?
I like unusual names but not completely bonkers ones like True and Rumer😂

IsobelRae23 · 01/08/2019 03:26

obviously Rumer is a great name! and actually a name. Not that I am biased.
Have you read anything by Rumer Godden? Might help sway you

MarieFromStTropez · 01/08/2019 04:02

Don't use True. It causes problems with a number of computer systems as it is treated as a logical function.

Very good point!

HUZZAH212 · 01/08/2019 04:17

True might be cute at 3yrs old as Tru. At 40 as a professional not so much. If you like Tru as a nn I'd go for Trudy as at least it's an actual name. Nobody wants to be called True - they really don't.

HUZZAH212 · 01/08/2019 04:27

As for in uncommon and short names - apparently 'bum' is on some baby generator name lists these days. I'm assuming you wouldn't opt to name your child that just because they'll probably be the only one in their school/county/England?

FenellaMaxwell · 01/08/2019 04:37

True is not a name unless you are a Kardashian.

Rumer is hideous. It reminds me of rheumy, and of rumen.

Lahlahfizzyfizzydoda · 01/08/2019 06:41

Wren
Ellis
Neva (means snow in spainish)
Neve

SallyWD · 01/08/2019 06:54

Sorry I don't like either of them but Rumer is the best one.

BurnedToast · 01/08/2019 06:58

Naff

IIN16 · 02/08/2019 19:10

Selah, Romy, Hira?

bigshiplittleboat · 03/08/2019 01:15

bigshiplittleboat · 03/08/2019 01:15

Autocorrect! Renna

Derbee · 03/08/2019 01:50

You’ll look like a sad Kardashian wannabe
They are both tacky celebrity baby names

Bowerbird5 · 03/08/2019 03:53

Rumer and please read her Rumer Godden ‘s books. I loved them as a child.

Don’t call her True she will get teased at school.

PhoenixBuchanan · 03/08/2019 04:31

Rumer is a great name, such a wonderful namesake.

True is terrible.

germainegrainne · 03/08/2019 08:15
