The ones we like are lola , marnie ,ruby, Gracie , Ella , alisia (said like al-lis-iya not al-eesh-a) sophia , Britney , dolcie, and Lauren. Which is the best and worst out of them as we can't agree and she's due September?? Thanks thought or anything would be a help or any suggestions and middle names to? Smile

Sophia probably the nicest, Britney and Lola are awful.

Nonnymum · 21/07/2019 14:50

Ella is lovely and I like Alicia if pronounced alice ee a. I'm not very keen on a Britney or Lauren

Bossbabynx5 · 21/07/2019 14:51

Ee do u think? Sophia was like one of my least faves but bd likes it! What makes them awful someone you've known or? Everyone says there not keen on britney cos it reminds them off Britney Spears and it's to trashy etc but I think it's nice and I liked lola but I did remind me off that programme Charlie and lola lmao and the girl on eastenders but I love it

FindaPenny · 21/07/2019 14:53

I think lola and alisia are nicest, though I think I prefer Alicia as the spelling. Britney and Marnie are my least favourite

Bossbabynx5 · 21/07/2019 14:54

@Nonnymum thanks I love ella to but and its lovely like alyssia isn't it but I don't like that spelling at all! why u not keen on lauren and britney have u known someone put u off or just personally don't like the names?

OP posts:
Cymbalon · 21/07/2019 14:55

I like Ella and Alisia. Really like Sophia but there are so many of them around. Not at all keen on the others in your list.

Atlasta · 21/07/2019 14:55

Love Marnie
Love Grace but think Gracie is a bit cutesy
Really like Sophia and Lola
Ruby is nice
The others are not to my taste. Especially not the Alisia and the pronounciation issues it will raise. It's also very 'common'.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 21/07/2019 14:56

My eldest daughter's name and middle name is on your list!

I quite like all of them (2 in particular) 😉 but not Britney

Bossbabynx5 · 21/07/2019 14:57

@findapenny The only thing about that spelling people might mistake it for al-eesh-a said the normal way so I though with the S made it more obvious the way it was said for her? Not sure if it's to weird tho?? and marnie is abit that girl from Geordie shore isn't it lol

Bossbabynx5 · 21/07/2019 14:58

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet oo what's your daughters names? Spill

OP posts:
Bossbabynx5 · 21/07/2019 15:01

@Atlasta you're probably right about the pronunciation problem, and I'm not to keen on grace but I love Gracie wouldn't want her to get grace for short.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 21/07/2019 15:03

I probably should have name changed for that post, but... what the heck Grin

Ella Sophia. She's a teenager now.
I've seen Ella described as dull and common (popularity wise) on MN, but we only know 2 other Ellas in RL. One is a teen and one is 8.

She has never had another Ella in her class, or any other groups or activities.

FindaPenny · 21/07/2019 15:04

@Bossbabynx5 I'm not sure but I don't think anybody would really confuse Alicia with Aleesha. I have only seen Aleesha spelt like that or Alisha... usually always has a H.

As for Britney, I think perhaps it seems a bit old fashioned.... Sort of early 90's. Lauren is similar, but I prefer it to the other names as they are just so popular.... So many Ruby's and sophie/Sophias and Ella's around. Marnie always makes me think of a moany child... Perhaps because it sounds like mardy??

Nonnymum · 21/07/2019 15:04

Bossbabynx5 I don't know anyone called Britney or Lauren I just don't like the soumd of the names. Also both names sound dated but not in a nice way like the very old names that are popular now. More like 1980s names. But if one of them is your favourite go for itm we all have different tastes.

margosims · 21/07/2019 15:06

Ruby, Gracie, Ella and Sophie are very popular and a bit plain in my opinion.
I really like Marnie! I think Britney is a bit too American ish but I don't think it's awful
Lauren is quite old fashioned now most Lauren's I know are 30+

userabcname · 21/07/2019 15:08

I really like Ella and Sophia - classic, lovely names. Ruby and Lola are nice too - although I cannot stop myself singing Copacabana when I hear the name Lola, I'm fairly sure that's not a huge problem for most people! Gracie is ok - I've taught what feels like hundreds of them so a bit meh for me. Lauren and Britney - very 90s vibe. Not a huge issue but I went to school with loads of Laurens so it does put me off. I've not heard of Dolcie (I've met a Dulcie) - not hugely keen. Marnie I just can't get on board with. I've seen this name suggested on here a few times but just don't like it - sorry!

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 21/07/2019 15:16

Thank you @KatnissK Grin

daisypond · 21/07/2019 15:17

Lola is a bit bland but OK
Marnie - don’t like. Moany.
Ruby - great
Gracie - too cutesy babyish. Grace is fab.
Ella - OK but dull
Alisia - is spelled oddly. Alicia is nice
Sophia - nice
Britney - horrid
Dolcie - looks odd. Isn’t it Dulcie?
Lauren _OK but dated. Laura or Laurel are better.

Bossbabynx5 · 21/07/2019 15:21

@katnissk lmao I'm absolutely laughing at u mentioning that song someone else said that to me to!😂 And I know Lauren is abit older classic name and I know what u mean by 90s I've know a few laurens no Britneys but I think that's more a 2000's name than 90s? Who knows maybe I'm wrong and ee really I've never even met a gracie or a grace thought it was uncommon must just be where I'm from.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 21/07/2019 15:21

Case in point @daisypond Smile (Re Ella)

gracepoolesrum · 21/07/2019 15:25

Love Marnie, ruby, Sophia and Lauren. The others are all ok except Britney, which I think of as an American name and too associated with Britney spears, if you were really keen on it at least go for the traditional spelling Brittany.

4under4our · 21/07/2019 15:29

Lola or Sophia would be my first choices.

I also like Gracie, Ella, Lauren and Britney.

Marnie, Ruby, Dolcie and Alisia aren't really for me.

userabcname · 21/07/2019 15:31

@Bossbabynx5 Copacabana is a great song so its not a bad thing!! Yeah names vary hugely by area - for example, Oliver is one of the highest ranking boys' names and has been for years but I've only taught a few. I've taught way more Archies, Alfies and Henrys! Could well be that Gracie isn't so popular in your area. Definitely don't let popularity put you off.

Bossbabynx5 · 21/07/2019 15:47

@alwaysonabloodydiet good taste or what! I love her name I've never known anyone I can think of called ella or sophia but I've know Ellie's and Sophie's and I hate those names tbh so would be worried she would get called that, is her name with a hyphen or is Sophia just her middle name? And what does she get for short if anything?

OP posts:
Frith2013 · 21/07/2019 15:47

Lola - she was a showgirl...

Marnie - getting too popular

ruby - ok

Gracie - Grace is ok, Gracie a bit simpering

Ella - dull

Alisia - looks made up. No.

Sophia - dull

Britney - no!

Dolcie - do you mean Dulcie?

Lauren - horrid
