After Anouk... Manon? Is it a nice name?

Rick it is pronounced with no “n” at the end like in English, so it doesn’t sound like “man on” but “man-ow” (maybe? It’s hard to write!)

Thank you Cece Smile

There was a French contestant on Great British Bake Off called Manon.

When we watched it DS told me about the "man on" football term as that's all he could hear every time they said her name, so I also can't think of anything but that now.

BookBookBook · 21/07/2019 09:16

Well, can you cope with having it mispronounced without the nasalised ending by virtually everyone except you, OP? Ninon will have exactly the same issue. Both lovely names, but I think it would get on my nerves. And don't even start with Anaïs which, even with the diaresis, will be pronounced 'AnAY' by large numbers of British people, apparently because of an old perfume ad.

LOVE.

Beautiful name. Goes very well with Anouk.

Not just French, it’s also Welsh.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t know how to pronounce Manon. The demographic here is quite culturally clueless.

Direwolfwrangler · 21/07/2019 09:31

@CeceSL I love the name Cleo. So beautiful, I’d have used it myself if it matched our surname.

Mamimawr · 21/07/2019 09:32

It's a lovely girls name

HellYeah90s · 21/07/2019 09:40

I wouldn't use that name in the UK, sorry, there will be so many mispronunciations of the name. I also think of the football connotation.

Esme is lovely. Cleo is nice too.

WhiteDust · 21/07/2019 09:40

Manon des sources . Lovely! ❤️

WhiteDust · 21/07/2019 09:41

I like Elodie too.

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 21/07/2019 09:42

Manon is lovely as is Alba.

Viebienremplie · 21/07/2019 09:58

Love Alba. What about Noémie? Or Elise

TheJoxter · 21/07/2019 10:11

I love Manon, I know two 3-4yr old girls called Manon and they’re both absolutely gorgeous.

I also love Alba

daisypond · 21/07/2019 12:23

I really like Manon. It’s a lovely French name.

Snog · 21/07/2019 12:59

I like Delphine and Nicette

Elsahappy3 · 21/07/2019 13:14

How would Manon be pronounced in English though ? I am French too , and have no idea how would people pronounce the ' on' sound in English.

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 21/07/2019 13:19

What about Céleste, that transfers well into English.

TatianaLarina · 21/07/2019 13:26

It’s pronounced exactly the same in English as it is in French.

Astronica · 21/07/2019 13:27

Manon is lovely.

LizzieMacQueen · 21/07/2019 13:28

Ines is lovely.

Throwing Avery into the mix.

(Not terribly keen on Manon)

DramaAlpaca · 21/07/2019 13:28

It goes beautifully with Anouk.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/07/2019 13:30

Haut de gamme. Très chic.

RosesARound · 21/07/2019 13:32

How do you pronounce it in English?

RosesARound · 21/07/2019 13:34

I always thought is would rhyme with Shannon but now I'm not sure.

TatianaLarina · 21/07/2019 13:37

As I said, the same as in French, ie without the final n.
