Indie, Posy or Kaia

I started a thread about Indie, and have decided that if we go for Indie she will be Indie as a full name.
These are our other options. I realise they are not to everyone's taste, but we've realised after months of agonising that we don't really like traditional names.
Kaia (pronounced K-eye-ah) has links to Hawaii (Kai is Hawaiian for sea) which we like as we have family there.
Posy I just think is adorable and love the nickname Po. I could imagine an adult Posy too.
Opinions welcome!

Indie is the nickname given to Indiana Jones by the little boy sidekick. Such an odd choice for a little girl.
Kaia is gorgeous. Willow is one fo my favourite films and has a lovely character called Kaia in it. It's such a pleasant sound as well as a positive association.
Posy: in a world with so many little Rosies it wlll fit well with her peers without being too samey.
So, Kaia, Posy, Indie in that order of preference.

I wouldn’t give a child a name that no one could spell or pronounce. They’ll spend the rest of their lives correcting people, very tedious.

mumof23188 · 19/07/2019 11:50

I absolutely love Indie. Was my choice if our baby was a girl. I think it’s a beautiful name.

ImportantWater · 19/07/2019 11:51

Kaia is lovely and not difficult to pronounce. Posy I also like and although you will have people telling you it is not an adult name like you I can completely see it as one. Indie I am not so keen on as a standalone name, partly because I have a male relative who is called that perhaps and partly because to me it just feels more like a nickname. Just my opinion of course.

barbarellaa · 19/07/2019 12:00

Indie is beautiful (because I have one!). Although she is full name India and nickname Indie, because it's helpful to have a use-when-you're-cross full name too Wink

Sophronia · 19/07/2019 12:05

I like Kaia but not the other two.

TrySinging · 19/07/2019 12:13

I have a Posy. It's been a real marmite name - people either love it or hate it. I absolutely love it though and I've had lots of people tell me the same. Oddly though, she actually said to me herself recently that her name was a little girl's name and not a grown up name. She's 6.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/07/2019 12:16

Not Po as a nickname. It's a nickname for a chamber pot!

MrsMiggins37 · 19/07/2019 12:18

Indie and Kaia are OK but I think Posy is stupid.

FindaPenny · 19/07/2019 12:20

I like kaia, but just to check are you pronouncing it to rhyme with eye and then uh on the end? If that's the case then 👍🏻

boymum9 · 19/07/2019 12:21

I really like indie and posy but personally like the spelling posie better! But both really pretty names!

Shplot · 19/07/2019 12:22

I know a few girl indies, love it Smile

EmilyC82 · 19/07/2019 12:22

I personally prefer traditional names. But if I had to choose a name from your list I would probably go with Indie or Kaia. Maybe Kaia is more suitable if you have your family in Hawaii.

DulciUke · 19/07/2019 12:22

Prefer Kaia the most, but she will have to spell it for other people her whole life, which may get tedious. Posy sounds like a little girls name, though that shouldn't be a dealbreaker, necessarily. Like Indie as a nickname, but not as a full name. They are all nice names though, and at least she won't be one of 5 with the same name at nursery.

averythinline · 19/07/2019 12:23

Kaia - although more likely to be pronounce kai ah ....or maybe key- ah (w london) nice to have a link to

Posy is ok but think i prefer the Posie spelling as Posy is a small bunch of flowers
Indie is the kid in indianna jones.... have come accross a few boys - not as good as your other too

ifigoup · 19/07/2019 12:25

I like Kaia and it works well for child or adult. Posy is not really to my taste, but a nice enough name. I am one of those “no nicknames as full names” people, so I wouldn’t go for Indie unless short for something else (India, Indira, Tamarind, etc.)

minmooch · 19/07/2019 12:33

We have an Indigo in the family, nickname Indie. Beautiful

sqeakywheel · 19/07/2019 12:36

Po is a slang term for chamber pot.
Indie is Indiana Jones' nickname.
Kaia is lovely.

SmartPlay · 19/07/2019 12:37

I think Kaia is beautiful.
The other 2 I don't like - Indie sounds more like a nickname and Posy just doesn't sound like human name to me. More fitting for a pet.

pikapikachu · 19/07/2019 12:38

Love Kaia.

Posy is too nicknamey and floral for my likely. Po-faced and Po the Teletubby would put me off Po. (Not to mention it's almost Poo)

Indie - not a fan. Love Indiana Jones (Indie). If I was not independent or a love of indigo, having that name would drive me crazy (although it suits someone not vanilla and mainstream)

BloomsButtons · 19/07/2019 12:40

I knew a Posy, full name Rosemary.

Clownfish123 · 19/07/2019 12:46

@trysinging interesting to hear from a mum of a Posy. Do you find people tend to tell you to your face that they don't like it? I can't believe people would be that rude. My DS has quite a normal name so we don't tend to get comments either way.

Thanks for all your other comments everyone, keep them coming!
Lots of positive comments which is nice to see, although there is no consistent favourite.
To the poster who asked about pronunciation, yes you're right its would be K-eye-uh not K-eye-ah like I originally said. I think most people would pronounce it correctly but I might get some Kay-uh, but that's easily corrected.
My DH still likes Indie the most and would take some persuading on the others!

Indie & Kaia are both nice.

Posy as a standalone name is too twee & cutesy for me. It's OK as a nickname, it's traditionally a diminutive of Josephine, but not on its own.

TrySinging · 19/07/2019 13:11

People who like it tend to say 'Wow - what a beautiful name!'. Others when they ask her name and I tell them, say nothing and have a confused look except on MN where people are rude as fuck. I chose the spelling Posy, rather than Posie because I like the floral connotations. Her middle name is Violet. She is beautiful and suits her name very well. 💐

HeyMicky · 19/07/2019 13:14

I have a Josephine who was known until recently as Posey. Then when she turned 4 she refused to use it, didn't like having a "little girl's name". It's definitely a harder name to pull off as an adult in some circles and some jobs.
