Indie, Posy or Kaia

I started a thread about Indie, and have decided that if we go for Indie she will be Indie as a full name.
These are our other options. I realise they are not to everyone's taste, but we've realised after months of agonising that we don't really like traditional names.
Kaia (pronounced K-eye-ah) has links to Hawaii (Kai is Hawaiian for sea) which we like as we have family there.
Posy I just think is adorable and love the nickname Po. I could imagine an adult Posy too.
Opinions welcome!

I love Indie. We seriously considered Indiana for our daughter, nn Indie. She would have rocked it

Bubbletrouble43 · 19/07/2019 19:21

I love Posy, never met one! Lovely name.

Colourfulest · 19/07/2019 19:21

@Clownfish123 I don't think many or even any would think it's made up.

Bob Marley has the famous album and song 'Kaya'. And then you have the very famous model Kaia Gerber, who is the daughter of Cindy Crawford. So it's well known by enough people now.

I mentioned it to loads of people whilst pregnant last year as it was the front runner for a while. Not one person hadn't heard of it!

BayandBlonde · 19/07/2019 19:39

Indie is nice.

Not a fan of Posie, it reminds me of the 'ring a ring a Rosie's' rhyme that dates back to the Great Plague Confused

Clownfish123 · 19/07/2019 19:46

@colourfulest I didnt know about the Bob Marley album! That is another plus for Kaia, like a bit of Bob Marley!

Kaia is a Scandinavian diminutive of Katherine and travels well but no one knows how to spell it and some people see it written and pronounce it Kia.

Colourfulest · 19/07/2019 20:12

@Clownfish123 put it on! You'll know loads of stuff on that album I'm sure 😁❤️

Frith2013 · 19/07/2019 21:04

Im not keen on any of those but I’d probably go for Posy.

Kaia looks made up or like the Ford.

Owlbert · 20/07/2019 14:12

Like them all but LOVE Posy!

stucknoue · 20/07/2019 14:17

Calling a child posy is like calling them bouquet, a bit odd. India is a good option to shorten. Indie is a kind of record label.

stucknoue · 20/07/2019 14:21

The reason people are being up front with you is because the name you give your child is for life, it's going on their cv, it will be read at their graduation ceremony, it's too important for them to be embarrassed (I know names can be changed but that is a bit hurtful for the parents too). Nicknames are really useful to allow you to have a great little kid name but they have that serious name when needed. I do like Kaia though, it feels more of a full name than your others and a personal family connection

daisypond · 20/07/2019 14:43

Posy is hardly any different to calling a child Fleur or Flora. India and Indie are both awful names to have on a CV, or to be read out at a graduation ceremony, if that bothers you. One India I know changed her name as a teenager. Kaia is fine.

CloserIAm2Fine · 20/07/2019 17:34

Kaia because the other two are far too twee and cutesy. She will be an adult for far more of her life than she will be a cute little girl.

Clownfish123 · 20/07/2019 17:39

I'm leaning away from Indie now, although that is still DH fave (typical!).
We are discussing Rose with Posy as a nickname. I think that option is the most likely at the moment as DH not that keen in Kaia.
The thing that has put me off Posy as a stand alone name is 2 people saying their own dd finds it too cutesy. It might be nice to have it as a nickname. I personally wouldn't mind being called Posy as an adult though!
Thanks for all your comments, lots of food for thought, even if you do all disagree with each other Grin

Posy also just makes me think of ‘poser’, which along with the bunch of flower connotations is off putting as well as twee. I have a long name I hardly use and a kookier nickname - I’m glad my parents gave me a longer official name so I could change to that if I wanted or a different abbreviation without any hassle.
I love Indie, I think it’s unusual and pretty. Kaia is nice. What about Jaya?

daisypond · 20/07/2019 18:38

Rose with Posy as a nickname works, I think.

Frith2013 · 20/07/2019 18:40

Kaia is bugging me as a name. It’s the noise circling kestrels make!

EleanorReally · 20/07/2019 18:45

yes i like Posie or Posy

Elsahappy3 · 20/07/2019 19:12

Posy sounds like a pet's name to me. I don't like any of them to be honest. Kaia maybe if it was spelt Kaya.

user1493494961 · 20/07/2019 19:52

If you are set on Posy, Rose with Posy as a nickname would work. It gives her options.

Astronica · 21/07/2019 07:36

I like Posy best, and don't mind Kaia. Indie is quite popular around me. I would use Indie as a nn for Ingrid though. Posy could also be a nn for Primrose, which I love. And why not for Penelope too?

Zazia · 21/07/2019 08:28

I like Kaia the best (also the spelling Kaja).
Indie is interesting but sounds more like a nickname to me.
I don't like Posy at all I'm afraid. Like another poster mentioned, reminds me of the word poser.

coco123456789 · 21/07/2019 10:51

The problem with Indie is that it’s short for independent - so you have indie films, indie kids etc. It doesn’t really sound like a name. They are all very different genres - Posy is lovely and classic, Kaia is a bit Colleen Rooney/Heat magazine and Indie isn’t really a name. I would go with Posy!

Clownfish123 · 21/07/2019 14:32

I was a bit worried about the Colleen Rooney thing, and funnily enough my DH's first reaction was 'it sounds like a name a footballer would call his daughter'
I don't really want that reaction. Its such a lovely name though with roots all over the world and a lovely meaning. I'm really torn on it. She will also likely be blonde and fair skinned so not sure how well it will suit.

Rose with Posy as a nn is lovely. I agree Posy on its own is a bit cutesy. I like Kaia, but I see what your DH means re footballers.

I don't like Indie at all. I do like India though, weirdly.
