Middle name for Isla...Skye?

Hi All,

I am due my first baby, a girl, early September. OH and I have chosen Isla as a first name but are struggling for a middle name. He loves Isla Skye but I’m not so sure. I’m Scottish so it sounds to me like Isle of Sky being said in slang! So I’m looking for thoughts on Isla Skye and any other middle name suggestions.

Thank you in advance!

Thanks for all of the ideas, loads of lovely suggestions- really like jean, Jane, Rebecca and Sophie.

I think he likes the Scottish connection and thinks it’s nice. I’m confident Isla covers the Scottish though and he doesn’t have to name her after an actual Island!

Isla Alba? Think Alba means Scotland?

twattymctwatterson · 15/07/2019 22:37

Shocked any Scottish person would think Isla Skye is ok 😂. What about Isla Lewis instead? Isla Bute maybe?

Isla (Islay) is an island though so you'd have two island names. Very popular name at the minute, although I'm sure you know that.

I think a longer middle name works well with Isla as a first name, stops it sounding like a holiday destination for the over 50s.

I have an Isla Jean as well.

Isla Skye sounds like a joke name.

EdtheBear · 16/07/2019 07:43

Nope I'm stunned he doesn't see the issue Isle a Skye!! Grin

Is there not a family name you could use for a middle name? Your mum / his mum?

Isla can't be followed by an island of any description. Swapping them round Skye Isla doesnt sound right either.

runninginheelsisnotfun · 16/07/2019 10:22

Oh man, song in head syndrome - I just came doon from the isle o Skye - Donald where's your troosers!
Just sing that once and DH will soon go right off it!

Isla is a gorgeous name! You are right though tough to get a middle name that isn't a tongue twister

ahumanfemale · 16/07/2019 10:22

I suggested Heather which I still love, but PinkSquidgyPig's Morag tops it!! It would work well the other way too Morag Isla.

Chloe9 · 16/07/2019 10:48

This thread has ruined the name Isla for me I will never see it in the same way again

sashh · 16/07/2019 11:02

I just clicked to ask if this was a joke, I read it as 'Isle of Skye'.

As he's Kiwi could you put Isla as second name and have 'North' or 'South' for the first? Joke obviously.

But being more serious New Zealand has lots of smaller islands, they include, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Catherine and Pearl. Lots have Maori names too that would make an unusual middle name.
