I really like sheila for a baby girl- what do you think? I haven’t met a baby sheila for years!
Any other 1940/ 50’s names that’ll be coming back next?
Also rather like Barbara

My sister who is just 40 is a Sheila. She hated it when we were young as it was an 'old name'. Then neighbours and home and away arrived and it got worse. It was topped off by being called She Ra princess of power as well!

She doesn't mind if now as an adult.

Eastern undertones WTF

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 14/07/2019 14:09

I know two. One plays in a brass band with DD2 and is in her eighties and one is my American friend’s daughter and is 12. Suits them both.

CalamBalam · 14/07/2019 14:09

I prefer it spelt the Irish way, Síle, but even then I can't say I love it. It's a bit Brenda-ish.

CalamBalam · 14/07/2019 14:10

But it will no doubt come back into fashion at some point.

bridgetreilly · 14/07/2019 14:13

Barbara is lovely. Not a fan of Sheila, though. Can only hear it with an Australian accent...

BiBabbles · 14/07/2019 14:16

I prefer Celia or Cecelia (which are somewhat related names), but Sheila is quite nice too even with the Aussie slang involved. Prefer to Barbara and Shirley.

I am as certain as can be that it won't!

CalamBalam · 14/07/2019 15:42

But if you'd told people 25 years ago that Ivy and Edith would come back into fashion I'm sure lots of people would have said 'nah!'. Sheila will sound like a fresh name to new parents' ears in 2035.

ladyisabelle · 14/07/2019 16:12

I have liked Sheila since I read the Fudge series by Judy Blume as a child. As long as you aren’t living in Australia I say go for it! Just maybe give her a more timeless middle name like Lily or Elizabeth in case she goes through a name-hating phase (as most of us do at some point).

Paperyfish · 14/07/2019 16:14

Oh, celia’s a good call! Like that!
I think will have to consult some Australians on the nature of the name as well.....
Maybe i’m Just totally ahead of the curve and your daughters will all call their babies sheila or Susan or Patricia! Or maybe i’m Just completely uncool. Grin
Anyway, there’s a much chance i’m Having a little boy anyway. He’d be Vincent. And I like it, so there! 😜

Sheila and Barbara? Both awful and belong in a locked vault along with Doris, Mavis and Maureen.

This!

Vincent is nice enough though.

BarryBarryTaylor · 14/07/2019 17:03

Love Vincent 🥰

Can I steal it? Hahaha I’m struggling with boys names!!!!

I definitely think you are ahead of the trend with Sheila.

DickZillaofTheVilla · 14/07/2019 17:06

It’s awful and makes me think of old ladies or crazy Sheila from Shameless

CalamBalam · 14/07/2019 17:06

Vincent is cool.

Vincent Cassel

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/07/2019 17:08

The worst person I have ever known was a Sheila so it would be a hell no from me. I like Barbara though.

StellarLunar · 14/07/2019 17:10

Sheila is a Granny's name What about Shayla?

foreverhanging · 14/07/2019 17:10

It's the name of someone I can't stand so I can't warm to it !

BiBabbles · 14/07/2019 17:16

Glad you like Celia Smile Vincent is a lovely name!

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/07/2019 17:23

Celia and Cecilia are lovely.

Susan is a great name, I hope that comes back. Sally, now that's a name ripe for a comeback.

Reallybadidea · 14/07/2019 17:28

Too soon. Give it another 10 years and it will be lovely.

TatianaLarina · 14/07/2019 18:00

Hell no.

She really would be the only one with her name though!

For good reason.

sakura06 · 14/07/2019 18:52

I like Sheila and Shirley. Not sure about Barbara.

SleepingStandingUp · 14/07/2019 18:55

The youngest Sheila I know was born in 1946 so at least she'll be unique in her class. Not a fan tho, sorry.

Martha is an underused old name

tillytoodles1 · 14/07/2019 19:42

The only Sheila's I've known have been old woman. Awful name for a little girl (unless you already have a son called Bruce).
