DH and I both like Rebecca. I'm not sure if it's the one... would appreciate advice on the following please!

Is it dated? I don't like the current popular names so want something classic.

What nicknames could we use? Would rather avoid Becky as we have a Becky in the family (not too close)

Any ideas for middle names? Surname beginning with S.

Can you think of similar classic names that I might love more? (I've spent a long time looking but Rebecca is what we both keep coming back to)

I really like it and don't think it's dated. It's a classic name and I think it still gets used. I've overheard it occasionally from parents speaking to their preschool aged DDs. It isn't overused or trendy though which I think is a good thing. The most en vogue names today will be the ones which date the most imo.

I have 2 friends called Rebecca. One goes by Becca and the other by Becks. Beautiful name though. How about Rebecca Kate?

Apolloanddaphne · 13/07/2019 13:31

I have a Rebecca and our surname starts with an S too. She gets called Becca and hates Becky with a passion. She is 21 now and she says she likes her name.

georgialondon · 13/07/2019 13:48

Isn't it a biblical name though? I don't really think it dates.

Gummibeary · 13/07/2019 13:48

I like Rebecca.

(But Becks is awful and reminds me of Becks Beer)

Gummibeary · 13/07/2019 13:48

The bible doesn't protect names from falling in and out of fashion Grin

georgialondon · 13/07/2019 14:09

No but it makes them a classic unlike some

MikeUniformMike · 13/07/2019 14:09

No, but they've been around a long time.

DickieDonkey · 13/07/2019 16:54

Nice name although I don’t like any of the shortenings, Becky, Becca, Bex would put me off.

KatieKat88 · 13/07/2019 17:58

Thanks all for the feedback! We definitely don't want a ridiculously popular name like Olivia (nice name though!) so Rebecca would avoid that. We prefer the Rebecca spelling to Rebekah but thanks to the poster who suggested. I haven't seen any other names that I like as much. Might just have to go with my gut instinct!

I love Rebecca Mary Sxxxx

It's classic for when she's older and wants to be professional.

Beck is a great short name for when younger. Or Bex

daisypond · 13/07/2019 18:22

Rebecca is great. I know a young one, shortened to Reba.

PineappleSeahorse · 13/07/2019 18:32

Rebecca is lovely.

foxtiger · 13/07/2019 18:49

I like it very much, and although it's not hugely popular at the moment, I don't think of it as dated. Dated is more often names that "came out of nowhere" and then disappeared again, like Darren or Tracy. Rebecca has been around for centuries and it will be around for many more.

I have an adult friend Rebecca who is sometimes called Rebs (she doesn't like Becky either).

Sophronia · 13/07/2019 22:51

It’s a great name. It would be refreshing to hear it on a baby nowadays, among all the Olivias and Amelias.

Rebecca Mary
Rebecca Sophie
Rebecca Rose
Rebecca Susan
Rebecca Lucy
Rebecca Violet
Rebecca Willow
Rebecca Hope
Rebecca Jane

Hippychickster · 13/07/2019 22:54

I'm Rebecka (but have foreign parents). I really like my name and always have. I'm quite old though (54).
I've never had it shortened although people have tried to call me Bex over the years - No! It's Rebecka!
I really like it and am glad my parents picked it. Not sure that helps given my age Grin

I really like Rebecca. My good friend is Rebecca..never shortened.. and her middle name is Dorothy after a relative. I think Fern or Pearl are pretty with Rebecca.

elfycat · 14/07/2019 00:11

I have an 8 year old Rebecca May, she goes by Becky.

She's the only Becky in her year, there's one other at the school but no one comments on the name for being unusual. I think it's one of those names that's never been over popular (as my name was nigh-50 years ago) but there've always been a few around to keep it current enough. I obviously really like it.

SallyWD · 14/07/2019 00:13

I love it.

PerfectlyImperfectx · 14/07/2019 00:20

I’m a Rebecca with an ‘S’ surname. I think it’s just the right mixture of classic and pretty. People often comment on it, even though it’s fairly common. I prefer Rebecca, but will answer to Bex or Becca. However if people call me Becky then I respond with this Hmm Someone up thread has mentioned my middle name as well. I think it’s a good choice OP.

Skyejuly · 15/07/2019 10:29

We have a 22yr old Rebecca. It's one of my top 5 names but prefer Rebekah.

Pinktinker · 15/07/2019 11:25

So very 90s. About five Rebecca’s per year when I was at school. They were always either Becky or Bex.

Monsterdogs · 15/07/2019 11:32

Rebecca is a brilliant name. My sister is called Rebecca (shes late 20s) and she is wonderful. She goes by Bex or Becca. She hates Becky so I call her that when I want to be annoying. But I love everything about her. Congrats 💐

youngestisapsycho · 15/07/2019 11:34

I'm a Rebecca Jane... yes I'm from the 70s! I've always loved my name. Never knew anyone else with the same name when growing up so felt quite unique... I get called Becs and Becca... but I really hate Becky!
