We are struggling with names (hence a million posts!) Looking for honest uncensored views!

What do you think of Dulcie?

And for a boy - Robin?

Is Dulcie a name? Where do you live? I've taught thousands of children in the UK and never ever come across it!

Expressedways · 08/07/2019 19:22

I don’t like Dulcie at all. I think firstly of the war poem Dulce et Decorum est and secondly of the Cinnamon Dolce latte at Starbucks. Both wildly different things but neither one a good association for a baby!

Robin is very cute for a boy.

Fatkins · 08/07/2019 21:14

I don't like it, but Dulcie is definitely a name.

Op, another suggestion with a similar sound, but a much nicer / classier vibe to it imo; Daphne?

lilpumpsmum · 08/07/2019 21:20

Daphne is nice and classy?? Grin

Haha, crazy how everyone's tastes are so different

Carpetburns · 08/07/2019 21:25

Robin nice. Dulchie truly awful.

ChaChaDeGregorio · 08/07/2019 21:26

Both twee

Redcliff · 08/07/2019 21:29

I really like the name Dulcie - I used to work with one and she was lovely (and super cool) so that might be influencing me a little.

Fatkins · 08/07/2019 21:29

I did say nicER and classiER. Which it is. Dulcie, to me, is the opposite of those things, so it wouldn't be too difficult Grin. Personal taste and all that though. I've met Dulcies before and never really batted an eyelid.

CloserIAm2Fine · 08/07/2019 21:39

I really don’t like Dulcie, I just don’t like the way it looks and sounds.

I do like Robin though.

FindaPenny · 08/07/2019 21:43

Really like Robin, but Dulcie, I'm not keen on as pp suggested it's probably because of the dull sound in it. As previously mentioned Darcy is much nicer or perhaps Delilah?

Ellmau · 08/07/2019 21:46

Dulcie feels a bit twee and 1920s, sorry.

Robin's OK. Actually it would work for a girl too ;)

CrystalMethHog · 08/07/2019 21:49

Dulcie was my Nana. I love it.

DickZillaofTheVilla · 08/07/2019 21:49

Dulcie is very twee and Enid Blyton ish

BarryBarryTaylor · 08/07/2019 21:51

Robin is nice (I hate that word!)
Dulcie is sickly sweet. Really not a fan

Ohyesiam · 08/07/2019 21:55

I really like Dulcie, but sadly it looks like it’s just you and me op.
I like robin too.

AverageMummy · 08/07/2019 21:57

@ohyesiam yes SadGrin

I don’t love Robin for a boy. Seems wishy washy. But I do love Robyn as a girls name.

Have literally never met a real live Dulcie?? I’m sorry OP, think it sounds clunky. And all the potential ‘dull’ nicknames if she’s not the most outgoing little girl. Some lovely alternatives like Darcy mentioned above.

SallyWD · 08/07/2019 21:58

I love Robin but I'm really not keen on Dulcie.

IreneWinters · 08/07/2019 22:00

Not keen on Dulcie at all. And I agree that Robin is rather wet for a boy. I love Robyn for a girl though.

whattodo2019 · 08/07/2019 22:07

I'm regally sorry but it's awful. Dulcie has such a harsh sound and Robin is a boys name. Robyn is a girls name but neither are my taste.

Lalallama · 08/07/2019 22:10

My friend's DD is called Dulcie and she's a really cool sporty teenager, so I might be biased but I love the name.

I know two men called Robin, and they are both quite alternative and also cool, so I have positive connotations with that name too. One of them shortens his to Rob.

Fatkins · 08/07/2019 22:30

The only Robin I know is far from cool, but I still think the name is great and definitely a cool name.

I'm sure there are many little girls, Nanas, teenagers, work colleagues called Dulcie who are utterly fabulous, but it doesn't make me like the name.

Or, to put it another way, two of my absolute favourite men on the entire planet are named Keith and Ian. I wouldn't give those names to any future baby boys I had.

Fatkins · 08/07/2019 22:32

I also know a brilliant Nigel and used to work with the loveliest Russell.

birdeebird · 08/07/2019 22:36

Reminds me of the shoe shop Dolcis.

AverageMummy · 08/07/2019 22:38

Thank you so much all - back to the drawing board for girls!
