Absolutely hate my 1.5 year olds name

Just that really. Absolutely hate the name we chose for her. We've called her a nickname since she was born (it sounds a bit like "baby" but it's not exactly that) and it's stuck 😳 she responds to that nickname and has absolutely no idea what her real name is.

Sometimes our family do call her by her real name and it makes my skin crawl I hate it so much.

What am I gonna do 😳

SophyStantonLacy · 26/06/2019 13:12

It is possible to change it.

BentBaastard · 26/06/2019 13:14

Sorry but we need to know the name.

twinsrunmylife · 26/06/2019 13:14

Is there a reason you hate the name? Do others feel the same?

thesungoesdownthestarscomeup · 26/06/2019 13:15

Name please...

butchsylvestertomjerrybugs · 26/06/2019 13:15

Why did you call her a name that you hate? Have you always hated it?

teenmum18 · 26/06/2019 13:15

Why did you give it to her then?

Apolloanddaphne · 26/06/2019 13:26

Did you like it at the time? Is her current nickname too babyish to persist into adulthood?

MatchSetPoint · 26/06/2019 13:38

Can’t really comment until I hear the name.

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/06/2019 13:39

You can change her name.

NotTheQueensBirthday · 26/06/2019 13:40

I also want to know the name!

DickheadChicken · 26/06/2019 13:41

What is the name?

Fullmoons · 26/06/2019 13:42

Does she have a middle name you could use?

SirVixofVixHall · 26/06/2019 13:46

What is the name ? Could you change it to something similar that you do like ? No point at all in sticking with a name you hate, that she doesn’t even know is her name. Change it.

SoyDora · 26/06/2019 13:47

It doesn’t really matter what the name is, it just matters that the OP hates it.
Were you pressured into using the name OP?

zippey · 26/06/2019 13:48

You can change it, it’s not too late. What is the name?

Owlbert · 26/06/2019 13:53

I think in this case we need to know the name. Maybe we could help think of nicknames that go with the name that everyone can use? How does your partner feel about her real name? Have you tried calling her the name when it is just the 2 of you, it might takes weeks/months but I think if you stick with it it will hopefully seem more 'her' if you see what I mean.

JamdaniSari · 26/06/2019 13:54

Name?

Suvin · 26/06/2019 13:57

Gosh, change it. She doesn't know it's her name because she responds to a pet name, so there's no reason not to, surely?

But yes, like others also wondering why you gave your child a name you hate...?

Fatkins · 26/06/2019 14:00

Change it! Definitely. It's one thing to use a name you're a bit meh about, but nobody should have to call their child a name they actively hate.

Either change it by deed poll or does she have a middle name you could use instead?

LiveatCityHall · 26/06/2019 14:14

My lovely nan was known by her middle name. Someone I work with is known by a completely different name that isn't a first or middle name, it's just a name that stuck. Even his own mother calls him by this name! My point is that could you can change it if you want to. Unless she's named after someone in the family and you're worried about upsetting them?

Whereissummerthisyear · 26/06/2019 14:15

You like the nickname but not her given name?

Divgirl2 · 26/06/2019 15:35

Change it. People will be a bit Hmm at first but she'll have the whole rest of her life to use the new name.

Life is too short to be stuck screaming a name you hate 58,000 times a day.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 26/06/2019 15:38

Normally I'd say 18 months is too late to change the name, but...if she genuinely doesn't recognize it as her name, then I'd say just change it quickly.

But first tell us what it is!

twinsrunmylife · 26/06/2019 15:40

Is the nickname too cutsie to be a name used within school and for the rest of her life? If not then I'd continue using it but if it is I'd change her given name, she's too young for this to be an issue for her.

Sorry you've ended up in the situation for whatever reason it is you've ended up hating the name Thanks
