Ottilie and possible middle names?

opinions on Ottilie? I have a feeling it’s a bit of a marmite name. I thought it was a nice balance of unusual and classic.

Also trying to think of middle names to go with it. So far the front runner is Ottilie Fleur...any suggestions welcome!

Love!! My husband wasn't keen but it's still on my list for next baby.

Love your middle name too

CalamityJess · 15/06/2019 15:48

I don’t like it much but I do like the combination Ottilie Fleur. Very pretty!

KittyMcKitty · 15/06/2019 15:53

Very pretty.

If you’re looking for unusual there are a lot of Ottilie / Ottiline’s around - not that that’s a problem of course.

AloneLonelyLoner · 15/06/2019 17:00

It's beautiful.

megrichardson · 15/06/2019 17:05

Love it. What about Ottilie Divine

bridgetreilly · 15/06/2019 17:11

Ottilie Lois
Ottilie Maud
Ottilie Anne
Ottilie Joy
Ottilie Susan

Watchingthetelly · 15/06/2019 17:14

Not a fan sorry, it's clumsy to my ear.

mamaoffourdc · 15/06/2019 17:22

Beautiful x

wheresmymojo · 15/06/2019 17:27

How is it pronounced?

Otterley?

That's how I pronounce it in my head which makes me think "in the manner of an otter"...

RubyBluee · 15/06/2019 17:29

That's how I pronounce it in my head which makes me think "in the manner of an otter” Grin that comment made me smile!

I’m not keen OP, think it’s a bit clunky

Flobeee · 15/06/2019 17:35

Clunky/clumsy as a combo or just Ottilie?

DH thought it was spelt Otterly, he seemed a bit disappointed when I corrected him. I think he quite liked the otter association Grin

I pronounce it Ott (as in otter) illy (to rhyme with silly)

I only know one Ottilie and she is always called Ottie.

I think maybe something 'plainer' than Fleur might be better. Not sure what though (sorry, not very helpful Hmm)

PolarBearBubbles · 15/06/2019 17:45

It was top of my list until recently where I see it everywhere and we'd prefer something less 'in' right now. I do love it though.

Banhaha · 15/06/2019 17:53

Ottilie Jane
Ottilie Faye
Ottilie Sarah

AugustRose · 15/06/2019 17:59

I like Ottilie but not with Fleur - I don't have another suggestion either, sorry.

RubyBluee · 15/06/2019 18:07

Clunky just Ottilie but I think Fleur actually does go with it

AverageMummy · 15/06/2019 18:36

@KittyMcKitty fewer than 0.03% babies a year have been named Ottilie for decades so it could be unusually popular where you live because that’s less than 1 per school nationwide

AverageMummy · 15/06/2019 18:37

I think it’s a lovely name - I like that it has the ie ending without sounding like a nickname

Harebel · 15/06/2019 18:42

If you're not sure how to pronounce it then I wouldn't use it.

It's sound is more like ohh tillia not otterley Hmm

daisypond · 15/06/2019 18:43

I really dislike Ottilie. It’s ugly sounding to me and you’ll get different pronunciations. I like Fleur though.

NapsAndTea · 15/06/2019 19:30

I love it 🥰 Ottie for short!

Flobeee · 15/06/2019 19:46

@harebel I do know how to pronounce it, Ottilia is a different (albeit similar) name and I would pronounce that with a softer oh sound. Ottilie is a harder “o”

And to everyone saying Ottie for short, I love that. Very cute and sounds great with our surname

Ottilie Grace
