Worried our other choice of Theodore is too popular/trendy. What are people's thoughts on Gabriel?

Lovely name

Moses92 · 07/06/2019 20:16

I would have used Gabriel if my OH had loved it as much as I do! As it happens though we are calling our little boy Theodore!

whatthewhatthewhat · 07/06/2019 20:23

Terrible name. Very 'wet'. And, as progressive as society is be I gotta... just asking for trouble.

Theo better, but chavvy. IMO

whatthewhatthewhat · 07/06/2019 20:24

*is getting

bibbitybobbityyhat · 07/06/2019 21:49

Seriously - if you can't even construct a coherent sentence why bother posting your bigoted crappy opinions @whatthewhatthewhat?

Namechangenecessity · 07/06/2019 21:52

Beautiful name. Gabriel Jude I would have if I had another boy, unlikely as my DS is 21 this year.

Nammas · 07/06/2019 21:56

I like Theo/shortened to Teddy

MabelStark · 07/06/2019 21:57

I've got a teenage Theodore and Gabriel was on my list as well as Ludovic which has a similar vibe. ☺️

Nonnymum · 07/06/2019 21:58

It's lovely, quite popular in my area though, more so than Theodore.

sincethereis · 07/06/2019 21:58

Love love love

Bluerussian · 07/06/2019 22:00

Very nice indeed. Go for it!
Theodore sounds a bit girly for a boy (daresay I've said something not PC there), boys are often nicknamed "Dora".

FrenchyQ · 07/06/2019 22:02

My son is a Gabriel (although his is spelt Gabrial), still love it 12 years on...I call him Gabe but he prefers Gabrial.

The only issue he has had was when he started secondary school and some boys unoriginally called him gay as it was part of his name.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/06/2019 22:03

Oh come on now, Bibbity.
Its hardly bigoted to say you don't like a name.

whatthewhatthewhat · 07/06/2019 22:05

I was a victim of autocorrect. It's a horrible name.

snop · 07/06/2019 22:08

Love both these names

Carpetburns · 07/06/2019 22:24

My nephew is Gabriel. He's 17, is extremely cool and handsome and pulls off the name Gabe really well. However, he absolutely hates his name and wishes he was called anything "normal" like Ben/Sam/Tom.

Tillygetsit · 07/06/2019 22:25

Gabriel is beautiful.

KinderSurpriseBump · 07/06/2019 23:22

Lovely and timeless

vampirethriller · 08/06/2019 07:02

I love it, my daughter would have been Gabriel if she was a boy. I know a woman called Gabriel too.

sunnyshines · 08/06/2019 21:58

I know a Gabriel pronounced Gab-ree-el which is nicer than Gay-bree-el.

Like Gabriella or Gabrielle.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 08/06/2019 22:00

My friend's beautiful Gabe is being seriously bullied at school because 'his name has gay in it'. Sad

foreverblessedbee · 08/06/2019 22:01

My eldest sons middle name. I love it. Go for it. It's cool, beautiful, classic, not common, and will grow with him as he grows into a man. Lots of positives. Very nice xx

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/06/2019 22:11

Im surprised to hear that, Vonny. As there are plenty of Gabriels around.
Also I'm tripping over Williams. No one passes Willy comments over that. Well I've never know it.

sunnyshines · 08/06/2019 23:07

Actually they do. Probably not in front of a teacher or parent though.

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 08/06/2019 23:08

My Gabriel has always been the most popular boy. He is also gay, presumably not because he has gay in his name. Has never ever been bullied or had any negative comments.
And he isn't a chav either.. Wink
