I really like girls names beginning with M and have that ā€˜d’ sound in them, I think they sound strong. So if you have any other suggestions too?

Mandy (Amanda) is due a come back - lately, UK people having been naming kids after our grandparents generation (hence all the Stanley/Arthur/Mabel/Daisy types currently in primary school).

You could get ahead of the inevitable Suzanne/Angela/Julia/Beverly revival!

Oh Mandy
You came and you gave without taking
But I sent you away
Ohhh Maaaandy

It's a Madeleine from me šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ nothing wrong with the song btw but that's what instantly came into my head

Teddybear45 · 23/05/2019 15:40

Neither

RuthW · 23/05/2019 15:50

Amanda (mandy) is cool. Go for it!

MummyBear2352 · 23/05/2019 15:58

We have a Maddie (Madeline) at work and she is part of the senior leadership team. She is of the highest management under the CEO and she is actually the partner of our FD as well. A good example of someone utilising their strong name for you lol xx

I like Madeleine and Amanda (Mandy) - it's my daughter's middle name after my mum!

nwybhs · 23/05/2019 19:44

I couldn't use Madeline for fear of my child being teased at school over MM.

I quite like Mandy, although it's not as old as the names we are seeing making a comeback just now.

Shadow1234 · 23/05/2019 20:34

Madeleine by far

Millicent (Millie)
Megan
Morgan

pilates · 23/05/2019 20:37

Madeleine

daisypond · 23/05/2019 20:48

Why would anyone tease a child with the name of Madeline because of MM?

nwybhs · 23/05/2019 21:00

Why would anyone tease a child with the name of Madeline because of MM?

Kids tease kids for any reason. It might never happen, but just as parents consider initials and don't call their child BJ or consider anagrams or reverse names and don't call their kid Lana, I consider MM and so Madeleine is on my no list. I realise plenty of parents actually do name their children Madeleine, BJ and Lana, but personally, I wouldn't.

daisypond · 23/05/2019 21:12

Madeline and Madeleine are different names, though. I’m afraid children born nowadays are unlikely to have heard of MM in the future, just as kids don’t get teased for being called Ben or Jamie or Holly or Jessica or Sarah or the name of any other child victim.

TulipsTulipsTulips · 23/05/2019 21:14

Another vote for Meredith

TulipsTulipsTulips · 23/05/2019 21:14

I also like Maya

Proseccofuelled · 23/05/2019 21:16

As if a child would tease another child for having the name of a child who went missing 20 years prior
Not equivalent to having initials BJ whatsoever

nwybhs · 23/05/2019 21:17

Madeline and Madeleine are different names, though.

I didn't realise my typo in my first post.

nwybhs · 23/05/2019 21:18

kids don’t get teased for being called Ben or Jamie or Holly or Jessica or Sarah or the name of any other child victim.

That's great then. And I said, lots of people do use the name Madeleine, I wouldn't, that's all.

Bouledeneige · 23/05/2019 21:21

I thought you were joking! Mandy is awful.

Madeleine is lovely - though I don't like Maddy.

Marnie is lovely.

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/05/2019 21:21

Amanda
