Hiya, everyone! Recently I've been toying with the name Remi for a girl, and have been putting up polls and asking for opinions on some websites. I just think it's such a nice name. Cute and simple, not so out there, but still very much a real name. But I keep getting mixed reviews from everyone; some people absolutely adore it, and some say it's a guy's name. I know a number of women who are named Remi, so that was a bit of a surprise.

Have you guys ever met a Remi in your life? What do you think of the name?

I know a boy called Remi and it reminds me of the Drink Remy Martin. Kemi or Demi ? Xx

stellarfox · 22/05/2019 06:32

I know one girl Remi/Remy (not sure of the spelling). She’s mid twenties and very cool and creative

breaker · 22/05/2019 06:36

Even worse than Remi is trying to be cool and putting an acute accent above the e but not changing the pronunciation. God awful.

silverliningsa · 22/05/2019 08:50

I like it! I thought it was a boys name but actually It ranks slightly higher for girls than boys (in the uk) on the darker greener website. I think I've just seen a male one on house of cards?

Anyway I think it's a lovely name and if you like it, go for it, and stop worrying what we all think Grin

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 22/05/2019 08:54

I like it!

I don't know of anyone called Remi/Remy so wouldn't know if either ispelling implies male or female

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 22/05/2019 08:55

My friend in America has a 3 year old called Remington and they call her Remi

anitagreen · 22/05/2019 08:57

I went to school with two boys called Remi one was nice one was an arsehole. Never met a girl called it though lol

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 22/05/2019 11:18

It's a man's name in France

PrayingandHoping · 22/05/2019 11:20

I know 2.... both boys...

outsho · 22/05/2019 12:22

It is a male French name usually spelt Remy. My DF is french and he says it’s quite an old man’s name over there, a bit like naming your child Raymond or Albert over here.

diddlediddle · 22/05/2019 15:43

@FinallyGotAnIPhone A little girl called Remington 😱

Tulio · 22/05/2019 15:46

@chipsandgin no worries at all!! I’ve never heard of those school sets, maybe a generational/part of the country thing.

I don’t take offence to anything 🙂
I think because the name is my kid now it doesn’t bother me if people don’t like it, because you forget the name when you know the person (if that makes sense!)
Saying that, I’ve only ever got great responses to it... to my face 😂

Switsy · 22/05/2019 17:15

I like it.

Sumsuch · 22/05/2019 17:40

I know one- she's lovely.

( if you're on here, " hi Remy")
😊

Zazia · 22/05/2019 21:06

I like it.

hatsnscarf · 22/05/2019 21:15

Love Remy.

DaraJohnson · 24/05/2019 09:59

Hello! First of all, thank you all for taking the time to reply, and thank you for being honest Grin
Many of you told me that the most important thing is that I love it, not the internet or random people. I think I've forgotten that along the way to find a "perfect" name, which does not exist. There's no name that can be loved by everyone, and as long as a name doesn't have incredibly negative associations to it, my opinion matters most. The person will always be more striking than a name, and that goes for everyone😍
Thank all of you sooo much for reminding me that, even those who were negative towards it!

Wrapping up, I think I'll stick to the name Remi eventually. I love how it sounds, and there are enough female Remis out there for it to not be too masculine. Thank you all so much, and have a wonderful day

Do you watch Blindspot op??

MargotMango · 25/05/2019 22:47

The rat from Ratatouille. Love that film

BethanyGilbert · 27/05/2019 08:26

I love Remy/Remi for boys and girls.

Tessakate · 30/05/2019 22:12

I like it and I would say it's more of a girls name than a boys name.

I named my son Levi everyone hated it at the time I loved it so stuck with it, he is 15 now and I still love the name, he likes his name and is glad I chose it.

sundowners · 31/05/2019 10:05

I like unusual names- but when a friends announced she'd called her girl Remy- my first though was "just what??" Id never heard of it and then felt t was slightly too sickly sweet but also trying to sound French- so dont like it, no.

scaredofthecity · 31/05/2019 10:11

It just makes me think of remifentanyl which is an anaesthetic drug commonly used in theatres!

Probs not an issue for you though Grin

AmyMaria2 · 31/05/2019 13:14

I know 1 remy, a boy Confused

Sessy19 · 02/06/2019 07:11

You’re going to be disappointed if you’re waiting for a majority ‘like’, names aren’t like that. I think Remy sounds cheap, for example. But that’s because I prefer a different style of name. I wouldn’t be bothered by opinions from an anonymous website, or even several, unless I wasn’t sure of the name myself.

Perhaps you just need to keep looking?
