We are due with our little girl in 4 weeks and desperately want to choose a name. We want something that sounds “elegant and kind” and isn’t that popular. We already have a little boy called Rupert.

Names we are considering (but would welcome other similar suggestions are):
Ottilie
Ottoline
Tabitha (any good nicknames for Tabitha that aren’t tabby?)
Ophelia
Aurelia (any nickname suggestions?)
Violet

Ottilie is one of my favourite names ever, along with, Dulcie and Sidonie. You'll end up with a girl called Sid with the last one but I also think that's cute.

Tabitha Tabitha Tabitha! I absolutely love it, and nickname Tabby too, but if you don't like it you could go Tibby, Tabs, Bee, even Kitty if you are brave enough, although you don't really need a nn anyway. Tabitha is a lovely underused name!

I know someone who was Tabitha known as Titty but they’re quite old now I’m not sure it would work as well today Grin

Love Tabitha!

You could change the spelling to Tabetha and have Beth/Bet/Betty as a nickname.

Astronica · 16/05/2019 00:16

From your list Tabitha and Violet stand out to me. I like Tibby for Tabitha, but Beth and Thea work too. I also think something less expected like Tippi or Tiggy is good too.

Names I love which fit your description:
Jemima
Clementine
Clemency
Araminta
Felicity
Persephone
Romilly
Georgette
Claudia
Briony
Anthea

I’m not keen on your names- they don’t match how classy and nice Rupert is. Ottilie is very clunky, as is Ottoline.
Tabitha is OK but a bit worthy servant.
Ophelia Is horrid. Girl who goes mad and kills herself?
Aurelia - too Disney princess and a bit bland but it’s OK.
Violet- is just a small invasive weed.
For names to match Rupert I think you need more classic elegant names. Julia. Antonia. Elizabeth. Catherine. If you want more flounce, there’s Victorian names like Clementine, or older ones like Lydia.

MummyBear2352 · 16/05/2019 10:08

Personally I think these names are quite dated and I'm not keen on then but each to their own I certainly dont think your child would have a classmate with the same name so if you're looking for something different and rarely used then they are good on that basis.

littlepooch · 16/05/2019 10:13

Of yours I love Ophelia!

I had similar names on my list and also had Romilly, Delilah and Antigone.

I went for one of the 3 above and we get such lovely comments on her name.

Wallabyone · 16/05/2019 10:44

This is the first time I have ever seen my name on a name thread Grin

I like Violet.
I'm never sure how to pronounce Aurelia.
I like Clementine but Clemmy sounds a bit like Clammy.

TuppenceTwo · 16/05/2019 21:45

Pretty names, OP!

How about:
Marianna
Beatrice
Ariadne
Florence
Chrystanthe
Alice
Rosaline

MajesticWhine · 16/05/2019 21:53

How about Adelaide, Aurelie, Emmeline, Talitha.

LemonBreeland · 16/05/2019 21:56

This thread is name heaven for me. I wanted DD to be Clementine but DH didn't like it. I love almost every name listed on here.

littlepeaegg · 16/05/2019 22:01

Clementine = flemmie clemmie

EvilMorty · 16/05/2019 22:04

Don’t laugh but I have always loved Bathsheba with Sheba for short. I know it’s a cats name but I heard it in a book and loved it.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/05/2019 22:04

I've got a friend who has four daughters called Octavia, Clemency, Tatiana and Ianthe. I always think those names go together.

She also has a son called Augustus

runoutofnamechanges · 16/05/2019 22:12

Lots of lovely suggestions... Some different ones:

Rafaella
Heloise
Delphine
Zerynthia

I had a French friend called Aurelie-Anne (with the 2 names elided so it sounds like 1 name) which I think sounds prettier and less Disney than Aurelia.
