I like slightly unusual names if possible.

My fave is Daphne but DH has put his foot down. What names are similar?

I also love lorelei.

Names I kind of like
Daisy (suggested by dh - this is ok)
Candace
Blythe (clashes with out surname)
Claudia

Boys
Jasper
Duncan
Blake (although Blake lively has ruined this for boys a bit imo)
Conrad

Dh has vetoed them all :( daisy is ok but I love Daphne so much. Dc2's sex will remain a surprise

We already have a james (after Ddad) but the names don't need to match at all.

I do not think you can name a child something one parents hates you just need to talk more I quite like Daphne but that's not the point it is not an awful name but it doesn't matter how much you love Daphne if the father hates it rather than thinking it is ok then it is a non starter, DH will probably go for something that he thinks is ok even if he doesn't love it
I had a name I really liked but DH didn't so I just came up with some more ideas her name was his idea originally I thought meh/ok when first suggested but it kind of grew on me then I thought no actually it is quite cool before she was born; now I think it is just her and suits her brilliantly
what names does DH like?

I have a colleague with a daughter called Blaize. I think that's epic.

I also know a Blaise but he is a boy, very cool name I think. Don't know the history of it but the familys other child has quite a traditional middle class name so it surprised me that they had gone for Blaise.

Daphne is a beautiful old name from Greek mythology! How about another old Greek name?

Persephone
Calliope
Niobe
Acantha
Cynthia

Or a more Roman one? I have a huge love for the name Sylvia.

Thertruthisoutwhere · 12/05/2019 14:43

Thanks guys, Dominic, Douglas and Rufus sound good. Also Astrid and Penelope are cool. I tried Magnus with him but he doesn't like names outside of our heritage which I think is silly. We have Scottish heritage so that's why I like Duncan (family name)

DH has suggested Annie or Thomas, perfectly fine names but not my cup of tea at all. He likes chloe which is ok.

I like Quentin but he doesn't like names that might be "posh" (he said no to Rafe which I don't really think of as anything really).

One question - is Casper a ghost? I really really love it and don't think the ghost connotation is too bad, maybe Kaspar is less ghost-y? Do kids even know about that nowadays?
I like Scarlett but is that quite popular nowadays? Dh would never let me but I love Katie-Scarlett as in GWTW.

Persephone is good butbunsure if people would mis-pronounce it.

Also Percy has just popped in my head.

OP posts:
NuffSaidSam · 12/05/2019 22:42

Casper is ok, not too ghosty these days. Or Caspian. Or Cassius.

Scarlet is not too popular at the moment.

I love Percy for a little boy, but I'm not sure it's that cool for a teenager or an adult man! I don't like Percival. You could just about use Percy as nn for Casper though.
