Little sister to Madeleine due imminently and we can’t decide between

Alice - worried overused?
Sophia - as above?
Lyra -too unusual? But we keep coming back to it.
Ottilie or Matilda - known as Tilly but like the shortening more than the full name?
Hermione - to be shortened to mimi

Clearly a literary thing going on!

Thanks.

I like Alice (not overused at all) and Matilda

aweedropofsancerre · 04/04/2019 08:06

I know a lot of Alice’s however it’s a nice name ..... Lyra is my favourite from your list I have only met one.

DonnaDarko · 04/04/2019 08:07

I like Lyra the most :)

MercyBodle · 04/04/2019 08:10

I like them all except Ottilie (I just hear otter and utterly). And if you're not so keen on the full names for Tilly maybe cross them off? If you add together the Sophias and the Sophies they are very popular. More so than Alice. Is Madeleine usually shortened - ie would it be Maddy and Mimi? Not so keen on the 2 'm's. Or Madeleine and Mimi? - in which case I'm not keen on the unevenness of a long form and a nn. I love Hermione nn Mimi though for something strong and a bit different.

However I think my favourite for you is the lovely Alice.

Hazlenutpie · 04/04/2019 08:10

Alice ❤️

happystory · 04/04/2019 08:11

Lyra.

legalseagull · 04/04/2019 08:12

I love Lyra. Phillip Pullman fan? If I had another girl I'd love this name. She's such a strong character in the books

Lydia55y · 04/04/2019 08:15

Alice or hermione are both very pretty.

I just see Lycra when I see Lyra, Sophie and Matilda just seem a bit dull and overdone.

Calixtine · 04/04/2019 08:24

Hermione!

Milicentbystander72 · 04/04/2019 08:27

I like Alice and Matilda. I know one of each. The Alice is a very feisty 8 year old and the Matilda ( Tilda) is a very kind and fun loving teenager.

I met a woman last week with a Lorraine, known as Lottie which I thought was lovely. Also a Lowrie, which I've not heard in a long time.

duplodancer · 04/04/2019 08:32

Of your list I don't know any child Alice's or Lyra's but know a few of all the others. All beautiful names.
I reckon I'd go Alice as it's simple, classic and yet I don't think they'll be many others her age.

mrsk28 · 04/04/2019 08:33

Love Lyra! Otherwise I would pick Alice from your list, not overused in my opinion.

march19 · 04/04/2019 08:33

Lyra is lovely and different.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 04/04/2019 09:41

I love Alice and only know one, who is 21. Not keen on the sound of Lyra although I like the way it looks. Sophia and Matilda are both nice.

AdaColeman · 04/04/2019 09:48

Alice is my favourite.

Sophia is hugely popular, I know three.

Lyra is my least favourite.

Peachbubble · 04/04/2019 10:17

Alice or Sophia (though prefer Sophie)

Happyandglorious · 04/04/2019 10:27

Alice and it imo it goes with madeline the best

Bumblebeesmum · 04/04/2019 10:34

All lovely - I’d probably avoid using the same initial - Lyra is possibly my favourite with Madeleine but I love the whole list

Prettyvacant2003 · 04/04/2019 10:43

Ottilie or Alice get my vote. I love both those names. Had my 7month old been a girl he would have been an Alice.

GreatDuckCookery · 04/04/2019 14:15

Alice would be nice.

Harriet, Nancy or Florence?

MikeUniformMike · 04/04/2019 14:45

Alice or Sophia. Not keen on the others.

TatianaLarina · 04/04/2019 17:18

Lyra or Matilda.

Lew1993 · 04/04/2019 17:23

Alice Smile I don't know one Alice!

KingHenrysCodpiece · 04/04/2019 17:32

Lyra definately. Very memorable and youthful and very cool sounding. Alice is sooo overdone. Just my opinion, which isn't worth much, but you asked.

BellMcEnd · 04/04/2019 17:34

Alice - I know about 76328 children and I only know one Alice. In fact I don’t know any adult Alices either. Lovely lovely name
