How would you pronounce it? Would you pronounce it differently for a boy or a girl?

Same as David Bowie.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2019 15:14

I would pronounce it "ridiculous"

IchibanLipstickForMen · 02/04/2019 15:15

Bow-ee.. Bow rhyming with Now. But sometimes I think I say Bow-ee with Bow as in a hair bow. So I'm not really helping. What's the 3rs way?

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 02/04/2019 15:16

I can never remember how to pronounce the David version!

Although i do know a little boy Bowie pronounced Bow-we (like a ribbon)

Bookworm4 · 02/04/2019 15:17

No, no and no, beyond naff

Limpshade · 02/04/2019 15:19

If you're looking for something original, please think of another name! There were two Bowies in my baby group of 12, and three Beaus (mix of girls and boys). Still have no idea how to pronounce it and neither will anyone else as they grow up.

Bow ( doggy bow wow) ie.
I don't like it.

Lokidokiartichoki · 02/04/2019 15:22

Like the knife

JaneJeffer · 02/04/2019 15:44

Bow as in tie a bow.

IvanaPee · 02/04/2019 15:46

Rhyming with no.

I’ve never heard it another way. I suppose I can see why it would be pronounced to rhyme with now.

HeyCarrieAnneWhatsYourGame · 02/04/2019 15:50

As in David, you’re meant to pronounce it Bow-ie (bow to rhyme with low). It’s not a suitable first name for a human though.

maryberryslayers · 02/04/2019 16:00

Bow-we as in low.

Please don't call your child Bowie, is not unique or cute. I love unusual names but it just sounds silly. Sorry.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/04/2019 16:07

Bowie Bowie or Bowie Confused

bridgetreilly · 02/04/2019 16:09

You can't call a child Bowie because (i) it's not a name, (ii) no one will ever know how to pronounce it and (iii) it sounds stupid.

HTH.

DarlingLittleBabyName · 02/04/2019 16:54

would pronounce like David Bowie x

adulthumanwolf · 02/04/2019 17:08

God, don't do that to your child.

Littlechocola · 02/04/2019 17:15

It’s a beautiful name.
Bow as in bow tie.

IvanaPee · 02/04/2019 17:17

It’s really, really not.

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 02/04/2019 17:18

What exactly does “Bowie, Bowie or Bowie” mean? Do they really look like three different names to you? Or do you think people have talking keyboards and can hear your attempts at different pronunciations?

BelulahBlanca · 02/04/2019 17:18

Boo-Ee is the American pronounciation. There was a Ziggy in our baby group.

noego · 02/04/2019 17:18

It's pronounced Bowee as in David Bowie.

It is a beautiful name OP.

Love to know what the judgemental PP's called their children.

IvanaPee · 02/04/2019 17:19

I’m thinking

Bow like no

Bow like now

I’ve got nothing for the 3rd!

Sessy19 · 02/04/2019 17:19

Wow. What a bunch of thoroughly rude snobs!

I think David pronounced his name to rhyme with low, but either would be acceptable and most people would make the connection. And actually, probably very few know for 100% sure so you’ll be fine... 😊

viques · 02/04/2019 17:23

You could save your child a lifetime of mispronunciation by spelling it either Beauie or Boughie.

Of course, that wouldn't solve the spelling issue, back to the drawing board CaptainTom, I think we have a problem ground control.
