Any ideas?

Possibly scandinavian/viking sounding names would be good? I like Erik but DH vetoed it :(

We were set on Max but then my best friend used it.

@widowodiw, we've not come across many either. Think it's becoming a little more popular although according to some threads here, it still seems to be a bit of a 'marmite' name Smile

How many dogs in reality have you ever met called Rex? Stop with these ridiculous outdated notions and using them as generalisations as fact, that no longer apply.

Good strong Scottish names many descended from the Norse.

How about just Gus?
Could be short for August, which is Scandi.
Or Felix?

Gus sounds like a nickname for Gusset... not sure that's a nice association?

Ranald, Ran for short.

DH campaigned for Dirk and Otto but I nixxed them, would seem pretentious in a small Scottish, rather square town and the grandparents would have struggled to like them.
We went for more classic short manly names in the end but DS3 wishes we'd gone with Magnus from the shortlist, he's into standing out from the crowd but we obviously couldn't tell that when he was a baby!
I also quite like Torran, Tor for short.
