Connie or Madeline?

I think we’re down to final 2. (For now)
One is my favourite the other is DH’s. But we do like them both, we may end up putting them into a hat.
Which would you choose?

I much prefer Madaline.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/03/2019 04:48

No to Madeline. Just gives me an instant image of little maddie and the Mccanns

And what is wrong with that? I can’t get my head around that mentality at all.

daisypond · 20/03/2019 08:01

Madeline only makes me think of the Madeline series of rhyming children's books set in a convent boarding school in Paris. It's fine.

canberramum · 20/03/2019 08:10

If you want the "line" pronunciation then the Madeline spelling is correct. It's a beautiful name. I'd pick it. 😊

Bumblebeesmum · 20/03/2019 22:29

Connie is gorgeous
Madeleine is nice not sure about the spelling you’re after - looks a bit less classy but still a nice name

You could consider full names Cadence or even Clemency ?

I’m torn..... I’m going to vote for Connie

Bumblebeesmum · 20/03/2019 22:33

I’m confused why people don’t understand some would hesitate over people immediately thinking of a (probably) dead child when hearing your child’s name....

I actually think it’s been long enough that it’s ok & also her own generation will have no knowledge of it - so personally I’d still use it now I think - but would understand if others wouldn’t yet

But I don’t understand how people aren’t seeing the issue - it’s the reason the name suddenly fell from use dramatically the following year so clearly a lot of people felt the same

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/03/2019 23:00

Because it’s been more than a decade.

Because dozens and dozens of names have the same link.

Because it has absolutely no bearing on the life your child will lead.

Because it’s a perfectly lovely name.

Because she’s a missing child not a mass murderer.

TatianaLarina · 20/03/2019 23:14

I’m not sure why people think Madeleine would have to have been a murderer herself for there to be an issue.

It was a horribly traumatic case that is still regularly in the news.

She was probably the victim of a murderer or worse. I wouldn’t name a child Reeva either. Those two names are for me indelibly linked to terrible cases. If it’s the same for others, no-one can gainsay that.

I’ve just shamelessly gone through to see which got the most votes
18-15 to madeline. Really close though! Now 2 people have told me since yesterday that madeline is too ‘posh’ for us. Rude! 😂 what are thoughts on Matilda? I almost feel this is between them both for some reason..

I like Matilda better than Connie but it's a bit meh really and becoming very popular.

Madeline is still by far the nicest. As for 'too posh' for you - first of all how rude to you are your friends! And secondly, Madeline is neither posh nor not posh, quite neutral I'd say. If anything Matilda has more of a 'posh' vibe.

nocoolnamesleft · 21/03/2019 01:23

Madeline.

TatianaLarina · 21/03/2019 10:33

Matilda is much nicer than Madeleine or Connie. It’s very popular but that’s not the end of the world.

LailaByron · 21/03/2019 10:38

Madeline! We have one....she’s Maddilyn though. She is the most gorgeous bundle of loveliness ever! Everyone should have a Maddi moo 😊

daisypond · 21/03/2019 11:02

I still like Madeline the most.

ilovecheese1 · 21/03/2019 11:33

Thanks everyone! I have to say the one I keep coming back to is Madeline I actually don’t know any & it sounds really classy to me... do you think it goes with her middle name Jean?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/03/2019 12:24

How would you be pronouncing Madeline OP? I think Jean goes nicely too.

ilovecheese1 · 21/03/2019 12:50

@GreatDuckCookery ‘mada-line’ like the film!
