What are people's thoughts on this name? For a boy or girl?

Quim sounds like a ye olde worlde terms. 'Fair maiden, what a fragrant quim thou hast'.

Is it still widely used?

BumbleBeee69 · 18/03/2019 20:49

Quim sounds like a ye olde worlde terms

that's true.. it does tbh

Luaa · 18/03/2019 21:29

I like it for a girl. Don't like ot for a boy.

ilovecheese1 · 18/03/2019 21:40

I’m south east, I’ve heard of quim but it’s not used down here & I would never make that connection.

123Flopsy · 19/03/2019 07:08

Love it for a boy!

It sounds very masculine like Flynn or Finn.

Sessy19 · 19/03/2019 07:22

@Kaboodler, me too. The Quinn family near me are a bunch of try-hard, wannabe gangsters! It’s not a name I’d want to be associated with! 😂

BUT!!! As a first name.... I don’t know, maybe it is a bit American sounding, but I don’t absolutely hate it. I like nicknamey names, so this kind of fits the bill 😊

Sessy19 · 19/03/2019 07:24

Quim is a well-known course slang term that I, at 37 and down South, am familiar with. No one uses it for anything other than slang reference to women’s genitals, it’s not a medical term!

KathyS901 · 19/03/2019 09:06

I'm from SE England and in my twenties. Can honestly say I've never heard the word 'quim' in my life

DarklyDreamingDexter · 19/03/2019 10:19

Quinn sounds very much a boy's name to me. Never heard it for a girl before. I suppose it could be used for both, but sounds very masculine.

PS. I first heard the term 'quim' on one of the Thor/Avenger's films. Loki calls Black Widow by this name/insult. Had to look it up, having never heard of it before then!

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 19/03/2019 11:50

It's our DS's name so I'm biased. No one has ever made the quim comment, at least not to us. He loves his name as do we. We've only ever met one other Quinn IRL (male, grown up, very cool).

jcq17 · 19/03/2019 11:52

Love it for both sexes but it's my surname so can't use it 😂😂

123Flopsy · 19/03/2019 13:35

I know a Quinn who's full name is Quentin. I like it.

Never heard of quim and doubt any kids would.

starkid · 19/03/2019 15:39

I like it :) mostly for a boy, but works for a girl too a la Glee

Shadow1234 · 19/03/2019 18:42

I like it for girl or boy.

Twisique · 19/03/2019 19:32

Makes me think of Quinn the Eskimo.

Merename · 19/03/2019 19:57

I love it, it was our boy name and we called the bump it but towards the end DH went off it as he is Irish and as it’s such a common surname there he felt it’d be weird when he went home. I was a bit gutted and still love it. I feel it’s very noble and manly sounding, like ‘Quinn came in and saved the day again’ - somehow!! When I lived in Manchester years ago I heard the word quim but I’ve never heard anyone say it in Scotland.

123Flopsy · 19/03/2019 20:23

I think it was used (much) more often for boys last year in the UK.

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 20/03/2019 08:29

@Twisique that's exactly why our DS got the name - the name was on my list (DH had veto'd), but he looked like a smooshed up little Eskimo when he was born.

Twisique · 20/03/2019 09:16
Grin
villamariavintrapp · 20/03/2019 09:22

Quim here too, I wouldn’t

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/03/2019 10:54

Made me think of quim

Me too. I think it’s awful especially for a girl, plus it’s a surname.

skiptrip · 20/03/2019 11:00

Reminds me of Quinn from Homeland (though it was really his surname), so I think of it as more of a boy's name.

MrsH497 · 20/03/2019 20:57

LOVE the name Quinn for a girl I really do but DH isn't sure about it. Base my feeling for girls name on Harley Quinn and Quinn from Glee ❤️

queenqueenqueen · 20/03/2019 21:00

I don't like it at all for a boy, sorry. It's ok for a girl.

IamAporcupine · 20/03/2019 21:09

I really like it for a boy - makes me think of Quinn from Homeland, who I absolutely loved!
