Some honest opinions on Rowan (pronounced Row-Uhn) would be great. Do you like it? What do you think of it as a girl’s name?

I think I actually prefer the Scottish row-un (row like an argument) pronounciation. Softer for a girl.

Odd for a girl imo

Pemba · 12/03/2019 15:41

But how can 'ow' as in 'ow i stubbed my toe' sound softer than an 'oh' sound? The second one is softer, surely?

PrincipalSkinner · 12/03/2019 15:44

In my area there are lots of boys called Rowan, no girls.

aliceandkids77 · 12/03/2019 15:48

I personally don't love the name Rowan. Some other unisex names that are prettier imo are Tatum, Blake, Scout. if you love it though then go for it no body else's opinions matter at the end of the day!

Duckee · 12/03/2019 15:49

Gorgeous name. I think it's completely unisex. I've known girls and boys called Rowan.

I've known male and female Rowan's too. It wasn't a name I was a huge fan of when my sister chose it for my niece, but it's really grown on me and I love it now.
We call her Row and Ro-Ro for short or Rowan-Berry for long Grin

Sophronia · 12/03/2019 15:52

It’s one of the only unisex names I prefer for a girl. I really like it. I also like Rowenna.

Disfordarkchocolate · 12/03/2019 15:53

To me, it's a boys name. Lovely name though. Rowenna would be my preference.

samanthajonespr · 12/03/2019 15:56

I love it, it was tied for number 1 on our girl list along with Hazel. Really couldn't have chosen! I think it's a really strong yet sweet name

SirVixofVixHall · 12/03/2019 15:59

I love Rowan. Such a beautiful tree to be named after, and the name sounds so nice. I know three, two adult women and a boy.

AnnaSparks · 12/03/2019 16:00

I’m stuck on probounciation... I can’t actually decide if I like the “wow” or “roe” sound better.

Finally, a baby name on here that I like! It's a big fat yes from me. (And she was always my favourite in Antonia Forrest's books Grin

FriarTuck · 12/03/2019 16:00

Roe.

howdoyoukeepawaveuponthesand · 12/03/2019 16:02

I like it a lot. Love nature names.

AnxietyDream · 12/03/2019 16:13

I love it and would have used it but DH doesn't like it. It's a nature name, easy to spell/say, not old fashioned but not 'trendy' either.

AnnaSparks · 12/03/2019 19:01

I’m actually pleasantly surprised at how many people love it, I thought it might be more divisive Smile

I have a girl Rowan and have had maybe two or three times in 16 months when someone has assumed she was a boy because of the name.

Also had a few people say it couldn’t possibly be a girls name and it must be a newfangled modern thing, however my 67yo mum went to school with one. And there’s Rowan Morrison in the wicker man, which is quite old, and in fact the first time I encountered the name for a girl myself

I don’t really like it so much for a boy, as to me it is a feminine sound, although I totally adore Rowan Atkinson! I don’t like it at all pronounced like argue row but then I don’t live in Scotland and have never encountered that name.

I do sometimes call her Rowrow :o but I’m not really fussed either way about nicknames

Jag1777 · 12/03/2019 19:18

Do you like the name Chloe?
Seems to be people really like it or strongly dislike. I know it’s a bit dated but I love the meaning and that it’s biblical and it’s one of the few that husband agrees on. I have a Lily and Grant as siblings. We want Anne or Annabel as middle name. Thank you!
Other options are:
Anna Claire
Rachel Anne( initials would be RAG though)
Claire Annabel
Isla ( but husband vetoed)

DameSylvieKrin · 12/03/2019 19:21

Lovely for girls and boys.

Jag1777 · 12/03/2019 19:21

Sorry! I didn’t mean to barge in on a post! I’m new on here and not sure how to do this Lol!
How do I delete! ?
So sorry!!

MaidenMotherCrone · 12/03/2019 19:30

For me it's a boys name. I have one, he's 20 and known as Ro or RoRo.

Jag1777 · 12/03/2019 19:34

Rowan is beautiful for a girl!
Sorry about my accident post!

Lindy2 · 12/03/2019 19:37

I like it.
It is a type of tree so most people will know how to pronounce it. Go with the correct pronouncation of row (roe) as that is what most people will automatically assume it is. Any other pronounciation would be very odd.
