Over dinner OH came up with the perfect name. It's a variation of a much loved departed relative, has a silent h which my other 2 have and I've fallen for it massively. Who said men were useless?! I'm thinking our dd will be Dinah Elizabeth. Like?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
123Flopsy · 23/02/2019 07:45

Does Dinah sound like Diner?

I'd say Di-na. There is no e.

FluffyMunchkin · 23/02/2019 07:46

It's lovely. Congratulations!

DippyAvocado · 23/02/2019 07:51

It's pronounced like Diner. I quite like it - I used to like the "Adventure" books by Enid Blyton and Dinah was one of the characters in that.

Peachbubble · 23/02/2019 07:56

I like it. It's 'diner' isn't it? That's how I'd pronounce it, like the actress Dinah Sheridan from the Railway Children.

Megan2018 · 23/02/2019 07:58

Perfect!

UrsulaPandress · 23/02/2019 08:25

Must have been an Enid Blyton story I got the name from as I lived and breathed Blyton books as a child. My Dinah doll was a Doll of Colour.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/02/2019 08:26

Sorry not Dinah. Elizabeth is lovely though.

Quintella · 23/02/2019 10:00

Dinah is only ever pronounced dye-nah.

I like it, OP. Unusual without being wacky. I remember it from the Enid Blyton books too.

123Flopsy · 23/02/2019 10:09

The ending is pronounced -nah not -ner.

rootsandbranches · 23/02/2019 10:10

Are you Meghan Markle?

Quintella · 23/02/2019 10:11

I think that goes back to the source of many a MN fun pronunciation row re. rhotic and non-rhotic accents. The people saying it sounds like diner most likely have non-rhotic accents and pronounce the word diner as di-nah anyway.

YahBasic · 23/02/2019 10:13

I like it, does it work well with your other names?

I also like Daliah with the silent H as an option.

PCohle · 23/02/2019 10:16

Sounds like diner to me.

Ribeebie · 23/02/2019 10:18

It's lovely!

Pishogue · 23/02/2019 10:19

Dinah reminds me of Alice in Wonderland's cat and as other posters have said, a violent redhead with a 'tuft' at the front of her hair, and who hated animals, in Enid Blyton's Mountain/Island/Sea of Adventure books.

Then again, I'm slightly charmed by the fact that you've chosen three children's names in part because of a silent 'h'. Grin

TheShiteRunner · 23/02/2019 10:20

Sorry OP- I think about Dinah The Terrible (am am amazed that no-one in the thread has mentioned this before me!)

Quintella · 23/02/2019 10:22

Who is Dinah the Terrible? I must admit I'm predisposed to liking anyone who's known as The Terrible.

TheShiteRunner · 23/02/2019 10:23

Blush OK ignore that- I just googled and I completely invented Dinah the Terrible (WTF), I'm talking about Dinah Mo. Blush As you were...

Quintella · 23/02/2019 10:24

Ah well, maybe OP's daughter can claim that title for herself! Grin

SpaceDinosaur · 23/02/2019 10:24

Dinah is the cat's name in Alice in Wonderland isn't it?

IForgotThisEvening · 23/02/2019 10:31

My sister is called Dinah. You’ve just brought back a lovely memory of my late Grandad singing ‘someone’s in the kitchen with Dinah’ that I’d forgotten about. Thank you!

finallychangedmyusername · 23/02/2019 11:45

Dinah Elizabeth is gorgeous.

mogtheexcellent · 23/02/2019 11:47

I love Dinah. Really understated name. Theres a Dinah in enid blyton's adventure series.

Jaz32 · 23/02/2019 12:08

I quite like it and don’t know of any young girls called Dinah at all. I love Elizabeth too. I think it goes better with your other children’s names than some of your other recent posts x

Megan2018 · 23/02/2019 12:11

One of the characters from the fab TV Series No Offence is Dinah-brilliant fiesty female!
