We really love the name Summer. It seems a really happy and friendly name. It’s also a family name on my husband’s side (he’s not British and where he’s from it’s not as unusual as here, although we have no plans to move there).

My only reservation is that our baby is due imminently so clearly won’t be a summer baby! I don’t mind this, and kind of like that we have chosen the name simply because we love it rather than to also correspond to when she’ll be born IYSWIM, although I also understand that approach may seem more sensible!

Those of you with a Summer in the family, does it get wearing being asked if your Summer was born then? I imagine it’ll get extra tiring when I respond “er, nope” Grin
Not sure I k am over thinking this!

The other thing was just generally what do people think of the name? It is more unusual than I’d ordinarily like, but I am very drawn to it. I think my concern is that my own parents will absolutely hate it (and they’re not the type to pretend otherwise) but I need to get over that! I smile whenever I say it so it is a name I really do like Smile

Btw, I’m not worried about the whole “she can’t be a high court judge if she’s called Summer” stuff. My name isn’t the best (80’s doll whose rival had a boyfriend called Ken) and despite the acknowledged lack of gravitas, I still managed to qualify into my chosen profession Wink

I know a Summer born in April. I think it s a lovely name

Reallyevilmuffin · 21/02/2019 13:35

Be careful for Rick and Morty hard-line fans.

NetflixAndDill · 21/02/2019 13:38

Thanks Aardvark. I have never heard of that so I just googled. I see there is a Summer Smith. Is it a show that’s on here? Do I need to be worried??

It's a lovely name.

Btw who are Rick and Morty?

NetflixAndDill · 21/02/2019 13:39

Sorry that was to reallyevil

Thanks Aardvark. I love it too! 😊

No, but I know a 'Storm' which I dislike as a name. I much prefer Summer, it's a pretty name and I don't think it matters what the birth month is.

NetflixAndDill · 21/02/2019 13:50

Thank you all. You’ve given me a lift! I guess the only really issue is whether we love the name. And we do. So I’ll try and stop worrying about other people’s reactions #chronicpeoplepleaser Grin

I know a March born Summer. No comments about not being a summer baby as far as I know.

jinglewithbellson · 21/02/2019 14:17

I know a couple summers.
Don't think friends ever said anyone's ever commented on if she was summer born or not.

It's a beautiful name Smile

Wedgiecar58 · 21/02/2019 14:26

I think its lovely. It's not really that unusual, top 100 and popular in my generation from the OC show.

Also it wouldnt occur to me to ask if she was born in the summer time, much like it wouldnt to ask when April, May or June were born.

Bunnybigears · 21/02/2019 14:28

I know an Autumn who was born in July. Apart from a few 'but she wasn't born in Autumn' comments when the name was first announced I don't think anyone really comments.

Bigonesmallone3 · 21/02/2019 14:33

I love the name summer and it's always what I wanted to call a daughter

Unfortunately i picked a man with a surname that we can not use that name with 😭

AuntieStella · 21/02/2019 14:34

I think the only name that has genuinely transitioned away from its season is May (possibly because of Mae)

Yes, I wouid expect a Summer to be summer-born. The one I know (age 16) certainly is

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 21/02/2019 14:35

I like it and don't think it matters about birth month.

saturdaynightgin · 21/02/2019 14:36

I know quite a few girls names Summer/Somer, it seems to be very popular where I am. They’ve been born at various times of year, and I wouldn’t think to ask if they were a summer-born tbh

Littlepond · 21/02/2019 14:37

I know a Summer born in October. Wouldn’t even occur to me as a problem.

FleeBee · 21/02/2019 14:38

I know a Summer born in January
Also one born in May who has an unusual surname along the lines of Lavin - which makes me think of Summer Loving

BlueMerchant · 21/02/2019 14:39

I know two, I've personally never would have thought about their Birthdays ( I know one is Feb born come to mention it).
I love winter name wouldn't think about what season baby was born.

RomanyQueen1 · 21/02/2019 14:45

I'm not a fan tbh, but each to their own, my friend liked it enough for her dd who was born in June. She's a lovely child and I'm sure her name has something to do with the fact she's always happy and smiling.

SallyWD · 21/02/2019 14:46

I love the name. I know an Autumn born in Spring and it's not a problem

Foodylicious · 21/02/2019 14:47

I know a Summer who was born in December.
Dont think it's been an issue?

SassitudeandSparkle · 21/02/2019 14:51

The Summer I know of was indeed born in the Summer! I haven't heard anyone ask when she was born though.

HeyArthur · 21/02/2019 14:51

I have a Summer and my friend has an Autumn. My dd was born in March and Autumn was born a week after my dd. Her mum and I met in hospital and became firm friends. No one has asked either of us when our girls were born.
Great name OP, my dd loves its and it suits her very well.

PrincessScarlett · 21/02/2019 15:02

I know a winter born Summer. No issues and I think it's a nice name. Certainly suits the Summer I know.

Lightsong · 21/02/2019 15:04

My DD10 was at her friend Summer's birthday party last weekend
