My mother passed away when I was 19 and I would like to honour her via my baby’s name....but she was called Margaret and I really don’t like that name. My husband doesn’t like daisy and a friend has Margot. I’ve read that Peggy is a nickname for Margaret....will everybody just think of Peggy Mitchell?!? Any other ideas for Margaret alternatives? My mother herself hated her name being shortened to Maggie and was called Marg or Margie by friends and relatives

Yes. Marguerite (Margaret) is the French for daisy. That's how it comes about.

My grandmother was known as Peggy as nn for Margaret. I like it. Smile

I don't like Peggy.
Margaret is lovely, as is Daisy.
Mairead can also be pronounced MarAid.
It depends on what part of Ireland you learned your Irish or where your teacher was from.

My grandmother was Peggy; her real name was Eleanor Margery.

Peggy sounds like a nickname for Peg or Pegasus. I don't find it at all feminine.

I like Margareta.

I know a little Margaret who is known as Meg. I really like it.
