Old & frilly.

lljkk · 11/02/2019 20:22

Posh mummy.

I like Josephine & Henrietta ok. Lots of good nickname potential. The others I don't have kind words for, they don't sound pretty to me & I prefer pretty names.

DramaAlpaca · 11/02/2019 20:22

I don't have any negative associations with the first three, they are all good.

Unfortunately my first thought when I saw Clemency was Death Row. Which is a pity as it's actually lovely.

Patr1ckJane · 11/02/2019 20:23

I love Josephine if I’m lucky enough to have a girl it’s on my list. My dad used to sing a song called Josephine.

I also really like Emmeline I think it’s really pretty

ImportantWater · 11/02/2019 20:25

Josephine - I think “not tonight, Josephine” and of Aunt March in Little Women calling “Josie-pheen!” after Jo. But I do like Josie and Jo as nicknames.
Emmeline - I think of the country singer Emmeline Harris, and the suffragist Emmeline Pankhurst, and I think it is a name which is both strong and pretty
Henrietta - makes me think of chickens! I prefer Harriet
Clemency - sounds like a Southern Belle or a lady in a Wild West town. Not in a bad way.
Jessamine is a similar name if you happen to be in the market for another choice.

Emmeline = Emmeline Pankhurst

Henrietta = Toby from Thomas the Tank Engine's coach

Josephine = "Not tonight Josephine!"

Clemency = what happens when someone gets a pardon

sunshineandshowers21 · 11/02/2019 20:29

i love emmeline - but i’m probably biased because that’s my daughter’s name!

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 11/02/2019 20:31

We had a chicken called Henrietta...

FlagFish · 11/02/2019 20:35

For Josephine I think of Josephine March from Little Women

Emmeline is my favourite.

Sockthief22 · 11/02/2019 20:41

Josephine-Terrovision song
Emmeline-Pankhurst
Henrietta-flowery, hens, sally henny penny
Clemency-sweet, soft, mild

BlueMerchant · 11/02/2019 20:48

Emmeline is the only one I like. Think it's a classic, pretty name although I don't love it. The others I really dislike.

bridgetosomewhere · 11/02/2019 20:53

My friends daughter is Emmeline - Emmy for nickname and it really suits her

I like them all apart from clem!

bridgetosomewhere · 11/02/2019 20:53

Clemency sorry autocorrect!

E20mom · 11/02/2019 20:54

I only like Emmeline

Shadow1234 · 11/02/2019 21:57

Emmeline would be my favourite on your list.

stellarfox · 11/02/2019 22:47

Josephine - Little Women
Emmeline - Pankhurst
Henrietta - A little bit of the Hoover. Not a very common name
Clemency - Legal

I love Emmeline and Josephine second. What about Clementine?

Calloway · 11/02/2019 23:03

All very frilly. I picture a row of creepy Victorian dolls.

Calloway · 11/02/2019 23:05

I think of the country singer Emmeline Harris

She's an Emmylou

ImportantWater · 11/02/2019 23:29

Oh is she? I always thought she was Emmeline - even Googled before I posted, but did the “if Google fills in my search term it must be right” thing.

Redskyandrainbows67 · 11/02/2019 23:35

Clemency - ‘try hard wants to be posher than they are parents’

‘Henrietta’ - again a bit try hard. It’s not a very pretty name. Henry is very popular as a boys name too.

Emmeline - lovely name. Prefer Emily or emelia though.

Josephine - lovely name - best one of your choices

BartonHollow · 11/02/2019 23:39

Josephine - my Aunt

Emmeline - Pankhurst

Henrietta - a snotty, unlikeable rich girl

Clemency - I have committed a crime and been pardoned for it

meow1989 · 11/02/2019 23:42

I like Josephine nn Josie.
I also like Emmaline, it sounds pretty.

Not a fan of Henrietta or clemency

ShadyLady53 · 11/02/2019 23:46

@ImportantWater are you sure you don’t mean the country singer Emmy-Lou Harris?!

Josephine - I think of Aunt March in Little Women too.

Emmeline is ok, the best of the bunch but I’m still not keen.

Henrietta sounds a bit horsey and I just find it quite ugly sounding. I do like Hetty as a nickname.

Clemency - I really struggle to view as a name and not a legal term.

I’m sorry OP! I just find them all a bit stuffy and harsh sounding.

Similar “classic” names that are a bit nicer sounding could be Beatrice, Rosalind or Rosaline, Verity, Felicity, if you are open to suggestions at all.

ShadyLady53 · 11/02/2019 23:47

Sorry @importantwater phone glitch meant this sent after you and Calloway posted!
