Chalet school

Redskyandrainbows67 · 12/02/2019 00:00

How about Cassandra? Cassie for short

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/02/2019 08:47

Josephine- a studious and serious girl who is very good at sports. It's a lovely name with nice options (Jo / Josie / Posy)

Emmeline - a very kind and friendly girl, stands up for the little guy. This was on my list, love nn Emmy too was just worried she would blend in with all the Emily's and Emma's - both names I like but too popular for me

Henrietta - this was my back up name with DD1 love both nicknames Hetty and Hattie

Clemency - this was also on my shortlist for DD1. Love Clemmie but I know alot of people hate it. I imagine a girl who is playful and a bit quirky

If I had to choose one I'd go with Clemency Emmeline as I like something a bit quirky and different

Thanks everyone! I hadn't considered the meaning of Clemency. Baby brain! Very glad I asked on here.

ShadyLady53 I'm definitely open to suggestions, thank you for those.

Emmeline and Josephine are family names and Emmeline is our top choice but I'm not keen on Em or Emmy as they remind me of a friend who died recently. Not sure what else a shortening might be. We are very lazy and will definitely shorten any name givenSmile

Josephine - I like.
Emmeline - Not keen. Prefer Emma.
Henrietta - only if your surname is Lamb.
Clemency - too much.

GemmaXOX · 12/02/2019 11:56

If I'm Honest the only one I personally like (My Opinion< please don't get upset) is Emmeline. I think thats really beautiful.

If you like the old fashioned names have you thought of Florence, Matilida, Clementine, Daphne, Emmalina, Georgette, Michelina.

midsomermurderess · 12/02/2019 12:07

Flouncy and very girly. And open lots of rather naff shortnings.

daisypond · 12/02/2019 13:22

I quite like all of them. Quite classy without being super popular.
Josephine is my favourite.
Emmeline is my least favourite - because it seems dated to me. I know a couple of Emmelines and they're in their mid-20s.
Henrietta - I like this. It has oomph to it.
Clemency - I like this. It doesn't have any death row vibes to me, but I can see why some might think so.

Ccec · 12/02/2019 13:33

I really like Emmeline, I don't think I have ever heard it before. Not so keen on the others, but wouldn't go as far as saying they are horrible.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 12/02/2019 13:34

Henrietta just reminds me of big, matronly hens, I’m sorry OP.

Have you considered Annabel?

RuthW · 12/02/2019 13:38

All gorgeous names.

tierraJ · 12/02/2019 13:38

Josephine - Josie Grossy from Never Been Kissed (sorry)

Henrietta - my old neighbour who was born in 1893 & known as Hetty

Emmeline - Pankhurst, suffragette of the 1900s

Clemency - what you get from the courts if you don't get prison

EstrellaDamn · 12/02/2019 13:48

Very upper middle class English.

TatianaLarina · 12/02/2019 15:59

Clemency is lovely, as is the meaning. Clemence is a popular name in France. Also like Josephine.

I had a hamster called Henrietta, it doesn’t have nice dims. Don’t like Henri or Ettie.

GahWhatever · 12/02/2019 16:10

Clemency isn't really a name is it?
Clementine?
Prudence
Faith
Hope
Charity

If Clemency is a name I'd expect it to be a US southern state 19C ministers' child, with a brother called Credence. Sorry

My 14YO DD has friends called Henrietta (Hettie) and Josephine (Josie). Both great girls. Emmeline is topical given the anniversary of the suffragette successes but I've not heard of it is use in my lifetime (or maybe a 70s country song?)

GahWhatever · 12/02/2019 16:16

perhaps also consider:
Felicity (Fliss)
Amity
Blithe
Constance

TatianaLarina · 12/02/2019 16:17

Clemency is very old name, and I know one.

GahWhatever · 12/02/2019 16:19

If Emmeline is a family name you can always shorten to Lina.

Didyeeaye · 12/02/2019 16:27

Josephine is the only one I like the. The other are a little pretentious IMO

raindancemumma · 12/02/2019 17:13

I like all of them but would possibly change Clemency to Clementine. I think Emmeline is my favourite. It was on my list of girls names.

BlueMerchant · 12/02/2019 17:50

Agree Lina for shortening.It's beautiful.

BlueMerchant · 12/02/2019 17:51

Beautiful

pisspawpatrol · 12/02/2019 19:03

I love Josephine and Henrietta/Henriette.

Emmeline is ok, good association with suffragists, but might be a spike in popularity due to last year's Suffrage centenary. Evangeline is nicer IMO but will probably be shortened to the over popular Evie.

Clemency is the only one I dislike. Don't much like Clementine either, something to do with the sound and the Clem bit.

Similar names:
Georgina/Georgiana
Seraphine
Genevieve (but opens up the veeve vs vi-ev pronunciation debate though)
Delphine
Adeline

PrimeExample · 12/02/2019 19:05

Josephine is lovely, especially Josie or Posie for short but I am not so keen on the others. OTT/try-hard and frilly...

Emily135 · 12/02/2019 22:19

Josephine - I used to call my brother, Joseph, this. So feels very boyish, as does Henrietta.

Emmeline - lovely, especially shortened to Emmie.

Celmency - reminds me of the name Clementine that’s been changed to try and be different.
