Just out of interest do you like this name? I really love it but not sure how it comes across. We would probably shorten to Libby.

OP posts:

MartaHallard · 10/02/2019 22:21

I'm guessing you don't know that Liberty Anna is the full name of the student Libby Squire who is currently missing, so this is perhaps not the best time, op.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 10/02/2019 22:23

i think it's quite 'wag' ish/ nouveau.

If you like Libby go for Elizabeth.

ReaganSomerset · 10/02/2019 22:24

All due respect to Libby Squire, and I hope they find her soon safe and well, but I haven't heard of her. I'm not sure it will be relevant by the time OP's baby is old enough to hear about it.

I like it, OP, but wasn't brave enough to use it myself. It reminds me of Liberty-Belle from Juno.

ThisIsMyID · 10/02/2019 22:27

@MartaHallard - that's a little harsh and probably comes across as much more patronising than you intended it to sound.

OP - it's a pretty name - if you love it - then use it.

Myusernameismud · 10/02/2019 22:31

I think it's a lovely name, but it depends on the area you live in/the people you're likely to come into contact with. Any name is subject to the dropping of Ts if you're in an area where that's common.

Liberty is pretty. Liber-ee, not so much.

ScrumptiousBears · 10/02/2019 22:33

It was on my list OP but DP crossed it off Angry I still like it.

Regarding the missing person, it's terrible but you can't go through life never using names in these circumstances.

jenthelibrarian · 10/02/2019 22:35

Absolutely love it. I was on my list along with Hope. I really like all the old 'virtue' names.

Singlenotsingle · 10/02/2019 22:37

Liberty's a lovely name.. shortened to either Libby or Bertie?

Obloodyhell · 10/02/2019 22:37

I hope your surname is Bell.

GemmeFatale · 10/02/2019 22:44

I’m not usually a virtue name fan but I really like it. Fresh but not weird.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 10/02/2019 23:07

I really like it

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 10/02/2019 23:12

It’s not the type of name I usually go for but I absolutely love it especially the nick name potential. Libby or Bertie are both so adorable!!

ShadyLady53 · 10/02/2019 23:16

I really like the name Libby.

I'm still traumatised by teaching an appallingly behaved bullying child called Liberty with an even worse mother about 10 years ago and cannot possibly bring myself to like the name, sorry.

How is it pronounced in your dialect? I was teaching in the North of England and almost everyone pronounced it Lib urgh eee, totally missing out the T. It sounds much better in RP, Scottish or Irish accents!

Bumblebeesmum · 10/02/2019 23:30

I’ve never heard of liberty squire ??!
I have a friend who’s very cool teen daughter is Libbie short for Liberty

CoachBombay · 10/02/2019 23:34

Swansea City football club play out of the Liberty Stadium so I'd say as long as nobody is a football fan or from Wales, you should be ok.

It wouldn't be my choice of name, but if you like it, why not.

DramaAlpaca · 10/02/2019 23:35

I really don't like Liberty, but I love Libby.

Mscandylamb · 11/02/2019 00:44

Sounds quite upper class

thegreatbeyond · 11/02/2019 00:49

Reminds me of Adrian Mole's fantasy child with Pandora.

HappyGoLuckyGo · 11/02/2019 01:40

I know one called Bertie, which I don’t like much on a little girl. I spent a lot of time wondering what in the world it could be short for... Libby is better, Liberty is alright. If you love it, use it!

Ribbonsonabox · 11/02/2019 01:47

I really love it! Makes me think of the patterned scarves the shop called Liberty makes! And love the nickname Libby

Hooleywhipper · 11/02/2019 01:48

I love it, I have a 19 year old one ☺️.

thegreylady · 11/02/2019 12:59

My cousin has a 15 year old called Liberty (Libby). I really like it.

stellarfox · 11/02/2019 14:13

It sounds very American to me - Liberty Bell. Not my cup of tea but it’s not awful. Other names where you could have Libby as a nickname: Elsbeth/Elspeth or Elizabeth

daisypond · 11/02/2019 15:46

I like it.

SherlockHolmes · 11/02/2019 15:55

I think it's lovely
