Just out of interest do you like this name? I really love it but not sure how it comes across. We would probably shorten to Libby.

I like it.

CloserIAm2Fine · 11/02/2019 19:44

I love Libby, but prefer it short for Elizabeth

I also know a couple who are just Libby not short for anything

Parent19876 · 11/02/2019 19:58

Reminds of the Canadian show, Degrassi... haha.
I would say if you're from an area that pronounces the 'T', then it's cute.

DurhamDurham · 11/02/2019 19:58

It's a lovely name and if I'd had a third girl I would have chosen Liberty as her name 😀

Parent19876 · 11/02/2019 20:01

Reminds me of the Canadian show Degrassi...

Emily135 · 12/02/2019 22:23

Love Liberty. And I love the nickname
Libby even more!

SquiddyMcSquidford · 13/02/2019 14:43

Not a fan, sorry.

RoseMartha · 13/02/2019 14:44

I think it is a lovely name

RiverTam · 13/02/2019 14:44

not keen, but that's probably because my first thought was the liberty bodice.

sharpstick · 13/02/2019 14:52

Not a name I’ve ever considered, but I like it. Not so keen on Libby though, I think Bertie sounds a much cooler nn!

Why on earth would op need the suggestion of Elizabeth though?? Yes it’s a full name that can be shortened to Libby, but op has asked opinions on Liberty. There seems to be a big mumsnet trend for having a long traditional full name, in reality I know loads of children with diminutives on their birth certificates. And anyway, Liberty is a name in its own right 🤷🏻‍♀️

PurpleAndTurquoise · 13/02/2019 15:03

Love it.

BlueMouseRedMouse · 13/02/2019 15:04

I would think you were probably right-wing/conservative, because all the people I know with daughters called Liberty are.

George Osborne and Liz Truss also both have daughters called Liberty.

Welshgirl2019 · 13/02/2019 15:26

Beautiful name

Smoliver · 14/02/2019 01:37

Totally usable! I went to uni with a Liberty. We all called her Libby for short. She loved her name and so did we Smile

aliceandkids77 · 15/02/2019 10:03

I really like Liberty. My niece is Liberty and she goes by Berty, everyone (including me!!) thinks its darling when they meet her!

Cookit · 15/02/2019 10:46

I like it a lot.

I think the comment about Libby Squire is a bit odd re: it being not the right time. There are plenty of unfortunate and tragic incidents all the time with lots of people with all sorts of names. What about Alexander, the name of the man who was just arrested for 3 murders? Should everyone stop using the name Alexander for a few months?

margana · 15/02/2019 10:50

It was/is a brand name of a range of sanitary products in some parts of the world, so it's not on my list of favourite names.

Hectic1 · 08/02/2020 20:24

My daughter is called Liberty. I really love it. Her dad is from America and we got married in New York, so I thought it fitted perfectly. We call her Libby, but I do quite like Bertie.

AuntieStella · 08/02/2020 20:28

I like it.

muddypuddles12 · 08/02/2020 20:33

I love it. Mainly because it's my name (as is the nickname - won't confirm which one Wink) and I'm as cool as they come

Clangus00 · 08/02/2020 20:43

Zombie thread.....but I like it too.

IrishPeaches · 08/02/2020 22:44

I have a Liberty. It suits her beautifully and we shorten it to Libby. She gets tons of compliments about it. Still love her name 4 years on! Go for it!

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 08/02/2020 23:56

Being American, I think it sounds too patriotic as it reminds me of the Statue of Liberty. But when I say it out loud with the context of knowing it's a girl name, it's kinda pretty! Not my style but I can see it. Libby seems to make sense as a nickname also. I'm not a fan of the name Libby though - it sounds stuttery to me or something. But as a concept on the whole, I think it works! I'm open to word names or virtue names!

IrishPeaches · 09/02/2020 08:07

@Rachelhaydenberk1 agree - it doesn't work so much in the US. when we took my daughter over to LA one summer and everyone asked her name we did not get the same reaction we usually do in the UK haha. We also noticed Liberty is used a lot over there for naming of companies, she was hearing her name on commercials all the time. Plus there's the Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty etc etc. My daughter thinks those two things belong to her btw 😂

She also has Californian cousins who pronounce it "Liberdy". So yeah all in all -it's a name that works far better in the UK I think!

Anyway, I've noticed this is a zombie thread so perhaps OP has already gone for it!

muddypuddles12 · 09/02/2020 08:29

Ooh you're right it is a zombie thread!
OP - if you're still out there, could you update us as to whether you did go with Liberty!
