The name Artie is growing on me but I don’t like how popular Arthur is. What else could it be a shortening of?

I can only think of Arthur but I like Artie as a stand-alone name.

GoGoGadgetGin · 13/01/2019 20:25

Artimus?

Nursiemum27 · 13/01/2019 20:25

I know an Arthur or two or three - mid to late primary age.

GoGoGadgetGin · 13/01/2019 20:26

AdaColeman · 13/01/2019 20:27

Archibald

OublietteBravo · 13/01/2019 20:28

Bartholomew. Although you’d definitely risk him being called Bart or Bartie instead.

Nursiemum27 · 13/01/2019 20:29

@gogogadgetgin cross post 🙈🙈 that’s the beauty of names I guess you can spe them however you like 😉

Artemis is awesome, but it's a girl's name!

Topofthehills · 13/01/2019 20:50

I have an Artie, short for Arthur. I didn't want to use Arthur because of the popularity either. But he is Artie. No other suggestions I'm afraid just wanted to say good name choice! 😁

chantico · 13/01/2019 23:36

Arthur (if you have a boy)

Artemis (if you have a girl)

CheerfulYank · 14/01/2019 07:58

I feel like you could pull off Archer at a pinch.

Carter, Barton, Stuart, Martin?

tammytoby · 14/01/2019 08:34

Why are people pre choosing potential nicknames?!

Give your child a proper name, whether it's Arthur, Artemis or Artan. Then let nicknames evolve naturally.

Artie (Fartie) sounds ridiculous and childish imo.

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/01/2019 08:55

Tammy people ‘pre choose’ nicknames so parents can guide them. For example if you have an Isabelle but want her to be known as Belle rather than Issie it’s important to get the nickname in early so others follow suit. As pretty much all names are shortened it’s an important thing to think about.

Really? I know lots of people whose names aren't shortened Confused.

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/01/2019 09:30

Yep. In school, by friends. People tend to shorten names in a friendly manner. I would say it’s quite uncommon for a Benjamin or an Elizabeth or a Daniel to never go by Ben, Liz or Dan ever in their lives.

Fashionista101 · 14/01/2019 09:55

My grandads artie short for Arthur!

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2019 11:43

Artie Farty. Archer is awful and will be Archie.
