I like the name Helena but only if it’s Hell-AYN-a. Not a fan of HELL-ehn-a

I prefer Hel - AY- nah
But I know a woman who gets really pissed off when she isn't called Hel - EE-nah.

Thishatisnotmine · 08/01/2019 19:38

Hel ay na. Only because I met one and she corrected my pronouciation. Now its how I read and say Helena.

flowery · 08/01/2019 19:38

I would pronounce it Helen-a.

toastofthetown · 08/01/2019 19:38

I'd pronounce it as Helen-a initially but I prefer hel-AY-na.

DramaAlpaca · 08/01/2019 19:40

Helen-a

HelenaJustina · 08/01/2019 19:40

We have one and call her Helen-a.

RandomlyChosenName · 08/01/2019 19:41

I would say Hel-en-a. If I was then told it was Hel-ay-na I would think you were pretentious. Like “it’s not Bucket, it Boo-Kay”.

flumpybear · 08/01/2019 19:43

Huh lane ah
It's my Dd Middle name

planespotting · 08/01/2019 19:47

I would pronounce it helen-ah, but i much prefer the hell-ay-na sound

BrieAndOatcakes · 08/01/2019 19:50

Hell-en-yuh

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/01/2019 19:50

Helen-uh

YesItsMeIDontCare · 08/01/2019 19:50

I'm definitely Helen - ah. I used to correct people when I was up my own arse younger, but now I'm mature enough to realise getting it wrong isn't meant maliciously!

BrieAndOatcakes · 08/01/2019 19:50

Hell-en-uh, sorry! Dunno where that y came from

goldpendant · 08/01/2019 19:51

It's one of those names where I'll go by however the person/parent pronounced it.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/01/2019 19:52

Hel-ee-N’s is the island.
Hel-ay-na is just erong unless you are foreign.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/01/2019 19:53

Or wrong even. 🍷

WellBHoise · 08/01/2019 19:54

She’s your baby, just orounce it how you want and correct people if wrong, easy.

Kirsteninakilt · 08/01/2019 19:54

It's my name

Helen - a

I cannot stand Hel-ay-ner or Hel-ee-ner and it winds me right up when people hear my voicemail pronouncing it Helen-a but still say one of the others! I would rather be called "H"

LadyLance · 08/01/2019 19:56

I pronounce it helen-a naturally, but would use Hel-AY-na if that's what the person preferred.

Bringbackthestripes · 08/01/2019 19:57

Helen-a

tammytoby · 08/01/2019 20:01

Helen-a like Elen-a

daisypond · 08/01/2019 20:09

Helen-a

BartonHollow · 08/01/2019 20:15

For me it's Helen-a

I'm half Irish and a relative of a relative is Hell-ee-na

I think that's the Irish pronunciation
