Can't agree with husband on any names

So, wayyyyy before we even started trying for a baby we both loved the same boys name...when we fell pregnant, we decided we would find out the babies gender to help us plan for baby and to pick a name....fast forward to now being 37 weeks and we can't agree on anything...like not even slightly agree 😩
How did other couples get around this? Did you push for the name you really wanted?
I love unusual names that are rare where he likes really simple classic, popular names 🙈 so not even slightly on the same page now! The only thing we agree is we don't want a name that is easily shortened...

I LOVE Bligh (which we both loved for over year)
Jesse
Oakley
Elias

He loves
Percy
Freddie
Henry

Bligh it's a surname. Jessy and Elias ok but the others are simply awful.
Percy is probably the worse one.

BlueJag · 07/01/2019 23:38

Henry it's nice.

MamaDane · 07/01/2019 23:40

Henry, Percival (not Percy) and Elias are nice.

Don't like the rest.

ChubRubTheStruggleIsReal · 07/01/2019 23:42

I like Bligh but your others are a bit... American-ish.
Percy -nah, it’s a pets name.
Freddie is ok, Henry is nice.
Back to the drawing board... Dainton? Dalton? Tate? Carter?

ReaganSomerset · 07/01/2019 23:43

We had this. In the end, DH saw me birth the baby and said I could have what I wanted. Smile Don't worry for now. Our DD was unnamed for a week, until we found one that seemed to suit her.

babybean19 · 07/01/2019 23:48

I'm hoping that too if I'm honest! He loved Bligh just as much as me for so long, so hoping after seeing me in pain he may come back around to the idea 😊
I told him write down names he likes, put in the hospital bag and we will wait until we see our boy and hopefully can agree and decide....

I've told him he can forget Percy 🤢 and Henry reminds me of an orange and lemonade drink or the Hoover 😂 too common for me too as I like unusual...don't want him to be 1 of 10 with the same name at school!

In the same ballpark as orrcy, what about Perry?

babybean19 · 07/01/2019 23:51

Reminds me of Kevin and Perry 😂

babybean19 · 07/01/2019 23:53

@ChubRubTheStruggleIsReal my husband says Jesse is American too...but actually originated from England.
The names you suggest I find American too...although, I wouldn't let something like that put me off if I liked the Mae enough 😊😊

Grannyannex · 07/01/2019 23:56

Otis

Grannyannex · 07/01/2019 23:58

Hew

babybean19 · 07/01/2019 23:58

@Grannyannex a friend has an Otis.
This is the other problem..we either no someone with the name already (friend/family) or due to me working in a medical centre I've met someone with a name and the child is a horror...so puts you off 😞😞
My poor boy will be nameless at this rate

How many baby name books gave you got?

Make a game of it. Each of you has to pick 5/10/15 (different) names you could live with, every day. Swap lists, minimum one (but no max) chose the one you could best live with. Put those two (or more) onto your Big List. Do this for 10 days. At the end of the 10 days you each rank the names in order of preference and number them. Then add the numbers for each name and the lowest scoring name wins.

It’s just a bit of fun really, and hopefully during the proces you’ll come up with a name you both like. If you don’t, give yourselves a set period of time to come up with something you both like and if not, you have your fall back name or one if you caves in.

Don’t stress yourself out, the baby doesn’t need a name immediately.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 08/01/2019 06:07

Oakley & Bligh aren’t great OP 🤦🏻‍♀️

Does Bligh rhyme with high?? I have never heard that before even as a surname. It certainly is unique! Agree DH’s choices will be very popular.

babybean19 · 08/01/2019 10:52

@BendydickCuminsnatch yes it does! I love it and everyone we say it to love it too! Except my mum haha!

I do like Elijah...people say it would be shortened to Eli though?? Not sure it would as I don't know any Elijah's to compare...we don't want a name you can shorten, and I don't like Eli as sounds chancy

@WrapAndRoll I love Seth but husband doesn't 🙈 I think it is cute for a little one, but can go on to all age groups which I think is really important

babybean19 · 08/01/2019 10:54

@MrsFoxPlus4 thanks for that but I like them

OP posts:
Cosmoa · 08/01/2019 11:21

I LOVE Oakley! Shame you can't use that 😩

Betty36 · 08/01/2019 11:42

Jessy is the nicest and then Elias but would prefer Eliah

OutPinked · 08/01/2019 12:27

Jesse and Henry are nice.

DP and I didn’t agree for a long time. He wanted Raymond after his grandad, I liked Ray but not Raymond. I liked Sebastian but he wouldn’t use it because of an arsehole he went to school with. In the end DS has Raymond and Sebastian as middle names Grin and we finally agreed on a first name we both liked when I was about 22 weeks pregnant. It was tough though, we had many’a debate over it.

daisypond · 08/01/2019 12:40

Bligh is a surname and very much associated with William Bligh of Mutiny on the Bounty fame. That would put me off.
