Barnaby (Barney) or Benedict
Elizabeth (Beth) or Charlotte (Lottie)
These are the only names DH and I can find common ground on. My sil thought Barney was like a black lab's name but I really like it.

Barney is a big purple dinosaur
The other three are lovely.

Barney is great.

You can't move for girls called Beth and Charlotte. The names are nice enough though if you don't mind them being a few of them around.

I have a really common name and it bugs me when I phone someone and say, 'Hi. It's Spider' and they say, 'Sorry, which Spider? I know about five Spiders.'

cupcakesgalore · 28/06/2007 14:47

Yes, that had crossed my mind too, along with Barney Rubble and Barney bear.....DH's middle name is Benedict and he really would like to call a DS Benedict simply cos he loves the name. Part of me feels I got my way with the other 3 so i might oblige this time!

sorry not keen on Barney , don't mind Benedict although prefer Ben.

The girls names are nice but prefer just Lottie.

Lizzylou · 28/06/2007 14:49

I have a Benedict and love the name (duh, obviously!), we call him Benny a lot (DS1 calls him Bennyboy).

Like both Elizabeth and Charlotte, very pretty names and shortened versions are lovely too.

RnBee · 28/06/2007 14:50

I love Barnaby (also Barnabus)!
I have a Benedict so I obviously think it's lovely .
Elizabeth is lovely too (probably would have been Benedict's name if he was a girl )

RnBee · 28/06/2007 14:51

lol Lizzylou our Benedict is also often known as Bennyboy!

MrsPuddleduck · 28/06/2007 14:52

What about Bessie short for Elizabeth?

scorpio1 · 28/06/2007 14:53

Lottie, for me.

RnBee · 28/06/2007 14:53

I LOVE Bessie, or Bess - my main reason for liking Elizabeth really. Bess is the tragic heroine from my favourite poem, The Highwayman

RnBee · 28/06/2007 14:54

not that I'd want my daughter to be a tragic heroine, of course . Its just a name I've loved since I was a child

expatinscotland · 28/06/2007 14:55

I had a great uncle called Barney.

He would have been about 105 now, but he's dead.

Of dementia.

Lizzylou · 28/06/2007 14:56

Lol RNBee!
It just really suits him.
Sometimes I do worry about Benny from Crossroads comparisons!

cupcakesgalore · 28/06/2007 14:56

Hmm, you're selling Bessie quite effectively as a shortening.DH and I are people who have to give our children full length names and then shorten them.

OP posts:
PestoMonster · 28/06/2007 14:57

I like all of them. Especially Barney, cute!

MrsPuddleduck · 28/06/2007 15:00

I think the best names are the ones you can shorten as you effectively have two names. I have a Will (William) and an Oli (Oliver).

gegs73 · 28/06/2007 15:01

I know a Barney (a grown up one) and its a nice name. I also like both Elizabeth and Charlotte, probably prefer Elizabeth as they are more abbreviations.

FLIER · 28/06/2007 15:09

barney is a purple dinosaur. Benedict will be shortened to Benny or dickie. girls names are gorgeous.

Benedict makes me think of a strange boy I went to school with and his surname was Coffin.

I love Barney.
My great great grandad was called Barnabus Christmas Fisher
Always has a soft spot.

theprecious · 28/06/2007 15:12

I think they are cool names. I like the idea of a long name that can be shortened. Mine can't and I have always been jealous of people with lots of nicknames.

theprecious · 28/06/2007 15:12

Baranbas Christmas Fisher is a fab name!

FLIER · 28/06/2007 15:12

nbg what a lovely name! wouldn't like it for my ds, mind you

fanella · 28/06/2007 15:16

Benedict and Lottie are lovely. Elizabeth is very nice too. Barney is, as I'm sure has been mentioned, a big annoying purple dinosaur.

Barnabus Christmas Fisher - just fantastic!

Nbg · 28/06/2007 15:16

No quite a mouthful
