Baby names yet again! What do you think of

Barnaby (Barney) or Benedict
Elizabeth (Beth) or Charlotte (Lottie)
These are the only names DH and I can find common ground on. My sil thought Barney was like a black lab's name but I really like it.

Thanks everyone for the input! I don't know any Charlottes or Elizabeths either. Ds is a Samu and the only one in his year group, which is suprising given it's in the top 10 consistently. I guess we'll have to see what baby looks like before choosing!

Barney is fine. Not keen on Benedict though.

I like both Elizabeth (Beth) or Charlotte (Lottie). Actually don't know any young children with either name.

My DS is called Barnaby (Barney/Barnes) and it's lovely! It suits the child at all ages into adulthood and can be cute at the baby stage, cool in the teenage years, sexy when he's an adult and distinguished when he gets even older.

We chose the name whilst I was pregnant and had lots of laughs about purple dinosaurs and almost changed it to Benjamin but then we just thought, who cares what everyone else thinks and went with Barnaby George and he couldn't be any other name now - it really suits him.

My friend's little boy is called Benedict but they mostly call him Ben I think.

I love Elizabeth and Barney would have been called Molly Elizabeth if he'd been a girl.

When you're thinking of names, you might think "oh, we can't use Barney, it's a dinosaur"...but once your child is born, it won't be relevant any more. His personality will take over and he will just be Barney.

I know a Barnaby and it's a lovely name.

Love Benedict, it is on our shortlist. We would shorten it to Ned.

Benedict and Lottie are lovely. Elizabeth is very nice too. Barney is, as I'm sure has been mentioned, a big annoying purple dinosaur.

Barnabus Christmas Fisher - just fantastic!

I think they are cool names. I like the idea of a long name that can be shortened. Mine can't and I have always been jealous of people with lots of nicknames.

Benedict makes me think of a strange boy I went to school with and his surname was Coffin.

I love Barney.
My great great grandad was called Barnabus Christmas Fisher
Always has a soft spot.

I know a Barney (a grown up one) and its a nice name. I also like both Elizabeth and Charlotte, probably prefer Elizabeth as they are more abbreviations.

I think the best names are the ones you can shorten as you effectively have two names. I have a Will (William) and an Oli (Oliver).

PestoMonster · 28/06/2007 14:57

I like all of them. Especially Barney, cute!
